I'm also interested in hearing from anyone with cruise ship experience. I have considered this as a possible endeavor once I retire. However, I notice that the pay is incredibly low......like terrible. But then, I would be doing it for pure pleasure and the money wouldn't matter one way or the other. I know making money in the music is very difficult at best, but is it such an overcrowed market that wages are pushed "cruise ship low?"

Money aside, it would nice to hear from someone with insight into this realm.

Cruise ships are not for everyone. It is an entertainment industry that is 100% geared towards the consumers on the boat. So, be prepared to play the same music for a very long time. A funny thing happened on a cruise ship once upon a time. A young buck was hired, and he was told the ship would be playing jazz. The first show the charts were handed out with no rehearsal, and the conductor announced "Now we bring you our show about the great American art form of jazz!"

The show started out with a bassoon playing the Rite of Spring by stravinsky...

Doesn't always happen, but just goes to show you anything is possible on a cruise ship.

Just my 2 cents..

Not much, ~$450/week according to some of my friends who did it in the past.

Usually can get $350 to $700 weekly, depending on the cruise line and what you're hired to do. It's not great pay, but it does get the job done. Take in to consideration your lodging and food for the most part is taken care of.

Also, ask if you will be given "crew" status or "passenger" status.

It makes a difference.

I'm not asking for "Gig" purposes! I will be on this ship with my Band, The Burners UK and about 100 guests(Fans) and was wondering if anyone here new anybody who is currently on this ship playing. Just looking to network if possible.

Thanks,

Tony G
