Hey!
Is anyone else planning on attending this year's International Association for Jazz Education conference?
This is always the jazz event of the year. This year it will be in Long Beach, California from Jan. 9 (next Wednesday) through Jan. 12. It is 4 days of virtually non-stop music and clinic presentations. The list of artists & clinicians is overwhelming. A quick glance at the trumpet players alone includes Bobby Shew, Clay Jenkins, Ingrid Jensen, Tiger Okoshi, Rick Braun, Wayne Bergeron, Snooky young, Russell Gunn, Carl Saunders, Dave Scott...
Also, there are the bands of Gordon Goodwin, WDR, Pancho Sanchez, UNT 2 O'Clock, Bob Florence, Clayton/Hamilton, Either/Orchestra...
Info can be found at <http://www.iaje.org/ac_sched.asp> and linked pages.
The cost is pretty reasonable for all of the action.
If anyone else is going, might you be up for a Trumpet Herald hang over breakfast or after hours?

I will be at the Westin and should also be in by Wednesday afternoon. Thursday is my busy day. I chair a committee meeting in the morning, guest solo with a high school group at noon, do an improv clinic at 1:00, and am scheduled to play Master of Ceremonies for Tiger Okoshi's concert at 5:00.
Try to call me and we'll work out a time!

Hey all,
I cannot attend because am a student, but my teacher is taking the week off to attend. He is taking some part in it, but I'm not sure where. He is an awesome jazz trombone player and is very involved in jazz education here in Arizona. His name is Vincent Wedge, say hi if you see him. Let me know how it goes, I wish I could go!!! _________________ God Bless,

Lazarus,
I wish you could go, too. However, you wouldn't be barred because you are a student. There will be a couple of thousand students attending. Maybe next year... |
