Good morning. I am in search of ideas for an audition piece for my 13 year old son for an audition in May.

The only guidelines is that it is a "solo(s) that demonstrate legato and staccato playing from the solo or etude repertoire." His private teacher simply told him to pick something.

Last year he used a piece from Lord of the Rings.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure exactly what level your student plays at, but these are some good level 3 options that are available at most music dealers. Sample pages included if you click the links.

Personally- since you're paying for a private instructor, I'd ask him/her/it to help in the selection process- after all, the instructor should have a good idea of what would show your son's strengths. Isn't "help"part of what you're paying for? Has to know more than nameless, faceless internet trolls, if not, find a new one.
