You should not play with an unfinished brass mouthpiece.

Somone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Doc himself develop health problems late in life due, at least partially, to this very thing?

I just read the article that was posted in this forum. It was the first that I had heard of it. Well, I'm just going to have to get the mp finished in silver. The original idea was that I'd have a rim that I could screw off and then put on a plastic rim for those cold days in Beaver Stadium. That's where Penn State is.

Why not just play a plastic rim year round? Doc made mouthpieces out of Lexan and Doug Elliott (former Reinhardt student) does the same thing. In fact, I just ordered a new rim from Doug that is made out of Lexan and, I believe, that Doug also plays Lexan rims. You might want to contact Doug and see if he can give you any recomendations or tips.
