|
|
When I got my Martin Committee in the mail it had a weird mouthpiece in it that was supposedly jammed in...I just gave it a little twist and it popped right out. It's a "Irving R Bush" mouthpiece with a "W 3" marking on it.
Has anyone heard of this "brand?"
I thought about throwing it away...but I guess if anyone knows anything about it...or wants...shoot I'll mail it to you...just make me a simple offer. _________________ Philippians 1:6 |

I've got one. Same model. Great piece. All purpose. I've used it on all my horns, although I prefer the Yamaha Shew Jazz for most jazz and legit, it's something I used throughout college and my early semi-pro career. _________________ 29 NY Bach 6/6

25+ years ago I had several. My trumpet teacher Walt Laursen played on one and I did to for a time. They came in many different sizes.

Yeah, Josh --
I have a couple. Like your's, mine came with horns.
I don't really think there's anything "special" about them ... maybe related to the Bush politico's from Texas?

They were quite popular in Los Angeles amongst some fine players for a time. Maybe still are, I do not know.

I don't know...I haven't tried it...it looked nastier than...well I don't know...Anyways, I tried to clean it up just a minute ago with my recipe of boiled water/baking soda/foil lined measuring cup. It cleans silver nicely...it looks better than it did...but I think I'll pass on this one. _________________ Philippians 1:6 |

Irving Bush played trumpet with the LA Phil for many, many years, and was later personnel manager for that orchestra. A very well respected musician and over-all good egg.
Many people played his mouthpieces, including Don Green, now principal in LA. I know that at least until the time Don was associate principal in LA (before that he had been principal in Detroit, Houston, New Jersey, and had won, but was not offered (!!) the job in Seattle) he played a Bush mouthpiece. The quality of the mouthpieces was extremely high, and so was his consistancy.

About a year ago I bought a WX2 Irving Bush mouthpiece from Rob Roy McGregor. It plays great but I have stopped using it for now. Bush is not in good health these days and stopped making mouthpieces some time ago. I imagine these mouthpieces will become something of a collector's item some day. Also, if you look in your Stamp books I do believe that in the photos of Jimmy that show his trumpet, he is using an Irving Bush. How's that for useless trivia? |

Bush mouthpieces are still being made. I had one when I was studying with Bob McCoy, who played the Tonight show until it moved to the West coast. Bob freelanced and taught many fine players in the nyc and Boston area until he died several years ago. The Bush line of mouthpieces will be in a booth at the ITG convention in Hershey next month. |

While I was first reading this thread, I was thinking I've seen who is making the Bush mouthpieces now, just couldn't find where.
I was checking some of James News' line, and noted his announcement that Bush mouthpieces were now available at his website.
I do not have knowledge about how deep the line is compared to Irving Bush originals, but there it is. |

Excellent mouthpieces. I played a W3D (a bit deeper than a W3) for a time.
It was similar the the Purviance 4*K4 ( at 42/64". He had a line of symphonic pieces in 43/64 as well. I think Kanstul was making them for HornTrader. Michael Thomas used to be the distributor. |
