Rob,

You've got to be kidding! Who is going to scoff at that? 150 gigs a year? That is GREAT! I love Mariachi music.

Just a note to jgadvert:

It's quite obvious from your statement about the supposed poor quality of the inner rim (these MPs are machined on some pretty high tech equipment so I know that it isn't poor quality) that you probably didn't go through GR to get your mouthpiece. Nobody, especially GR, says that you have to play on a MP with that much bite. In fact, they have more than enough models, rims sizes, bites, etc to meet any playing demand that you have, and if they don't have what you need in stock, they will custom build one for you. They can even take your old favorite and mathmatically work in a couple of tweaks to make it better than it already is.

If you don't believe me, give them a call or email Brian Scriver at GR and he'll be more than happy to answer any questions that you might have. I consulted with Brian for almost a month via email and telephone, telling him what I was playing, what I liked about it, what I didn't like about it, what my playing demands were (it's all on a questionairre that he will send you) and based on that information, will make a recomendation to you about which piece you should go with.

He nailed mine right on the nose. I'm very happy with it and I'm glad I took the time to do it right. Yeah, they might cost a bit more than a conventional MP but they are worth every penny.

Ok, I'll jump off of the soap box now.

Jg,

Not all GR mouthpieces are the same, obviously. The kind of stuff I do frequently calls for me to stand in front of a band and be featured on one song after another (some of them a little on the demanding side in technique and range) as in a show. My GR, previously the 63*SR* and now the 63*** serves me well. I can only speak for these two. I switched to the 63*** (contact Bruce Lee @ Northern Brass) because it gets very close to the sound that I am looking for and responds better that the 63*SR* which responds better than any other piece I had tried previously(Bach, Parduba, Rudy Muck, Al Cass, Schilke, Yamaha, Jet Tone, etc.).

The 63*** for me practically plays itself, smoothly and cleanly from low F# to D plus above Double C! The connection between high C and double C is almost as smooth as the connection between middle C and high C.
Regards,

CR

Am I the only trumpet player on earth that has not heard of a GR mouthpiece? How do I get in touch with the manufacturer? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Philip S.

PS. I'm on a mini mouthpiece quest myself.

Thanks David, I have already recieved an email from Brian. I certainly appreciate your help. I will definately look at their web site and give them a call. If it works out they should give you a comission. Take it in US dollars though.

Thanks again,
Philip S.

In my recently ended Mpc Safari II , I toyed with several GRs. After trading lotsa e-mail w Brian Scriver, better yet, meeting Brian and Gary Radtke at ITG, they really worked with me.
The "e" series was my golden ticket. Personal choice. I like the e62MS, Brian's recommendation after several days of kicking tires. The .620" diameter is not for everyone, but I like. The MS projects, slots well; better yet, has a nice tone.
Talk with Brian and Gary or Bruce Lee to find your solution.

Very nice Doc photos! It is good to see that Doc is playing the GR Mouthpieces! I understand he is the ultimate mouthpiece junkie.

Looks like this thread has cooled off, but since I have been breaking in my new GR66M the past two weeks I had to add my opinion. Previously I played a bach 3c, 1c, 3b, etc. I have a drawer full that my son can add to when he takes up the trumpet. Anyway, the GR has proven to be a great improvment for me:

1. More focused.
2. Good balance in all the registers.
3. Nice bright, full tone.
4. Slots better.
5. More comfortable.

Science? Math? Magic? Psychological suggestion? Maybe a little of each, but the end result is that blowing the trumpet just got easier and better for me.
