hey guys,

Im currently a sophmore in highschool, and I have been using the same trumpet sense 6th grade. Its a Weimar...I think, and it cost me around $200. Its a pretty good trumpet and its not really giving me any problems, but I keep thinking I should invest in a better horn. So should I get one?

P.S.- Any suggestions for a new horn would also be appreciated

Thanks

Save. Practice. Learn. When you can play better than your horn so it's holding you back, then you'll know more about what you want.

And don't be too quick to start in on tongueing, either. There's SO many different ways to do it, and they all work. You want something that works with the way YOU play, not something that will mess up what
you've already got.

And welcome to TH!

Knowing nothing more than what I read, I'm with Razeon.

Huh??? Four years into one's trumpet career probably isn't too early to learn how to tonue a note.

The real question is what does your private instructor say about you and your horn?

I knew it had to be something like that. Your posts normally make sense.

You might want to save up for a good early Elkhardt Bach model 37. I would try to find one in silver. This would be a very safe choice of trumpet for you.

Dillon Music in NJ (USA) always seems to have a very good selection of these trumpets:

I have done buisiness with Dillon and I have been very pleased with Dillon's excellent customer service.

That's odd. I thought I was the only one. I didn't start tonguing notes until I was a sophmore in HS. I wish I would have known about TOL then. It would've saved me alot of heartache now.

I agree with Ray. You're at a point now where you're probably better off investing in lessons rather than a new (or new used) instrument right now. Your private lesson teacher can give you some guidance on when an upgrade makes sense.
