Like the song..."Vincent" I think of Charley Parker, when I hear this song?
In that horrific book about CHET BAKER,there is a chapter about.. how much love and appreciation Chet had for Charley when he was near the end of his life.
Chet's girl friend was always upset that Parker would on a regular basis"crash land" in Chet's apt. as Charley had "no place to go" had no cash for drugs or food.
Parker would often as a habit, go through Chets pants pockets and would take the money that Chet had purposely left for him "to find"
It broke Chets heart to have to hear the greatest jazz musician ever born into this world, having to resort to begging or asking for cash.
Although this really upset Chets woman, he told her NEVER to question Parker about this arrangement as Chet felt,Parker paid his dues IN FULL and that all of Charley's peers and working musicians should make sure that Charley basic needs were surely taken care of.
This chapter had this old BBD cryin' like a baby, when I read it. Even now my left eyeball is leakin' at bit andallthatjazz.

Well, I swear I saw a fat ugly version of Elvis driving a crappy powder-blue Oldsmobile down the street, so anything's possible I guess. _________________ Trumpet: Bach 180LR, 72 bell

allen-
i did ask myself the question recently. the "massey hall" concert with roach and dizzy seems to be a classic favorite, as it "live at storyville" some people like "with strings" and "bird and diz" and there are multiple, great compilations/box sets. |

“The Complete Savoy & Dial Studio Recordings 1944-1948” is an example of a good compilation. |
