Nice page, and I can second the 'good guy' remark you have on the tribute page. Always with the hug. And please, Wayne, no tongues.

Coming from the radio biz where you have some amazingly creative people, not unlike us music folk, I can attest to the "bigger they are the nicer they are" deal. Gary Owens, easily one of the most talented, most successful men in his field (and a regular Saturday morning patron of Jerry's Deli in Studio City where he oftens holds court over other musicians at the table, like pianist Tom Hensley for example) will great all comers-by with a story and a sincere handshake. Guys like him (and Wayne) surely have no enemies. Me, however....

And re: Jerry Hey, he used to practice in the bowels of the UCLA music dept. when I studied there and is credited by more than one fellow trumpeter for turning him on to the methods to his madness (Adam). I tell ya, the bigger they are...

Great thread and trute to a GREAT player. In another thread, I said that I always (since high school) marveled at Hey's extremely clean playing on some Michael Jackson tunes.

Interesting timing....Last night my wife MADE ME (sorry, Mr. Hey) go see "The Proposal." ($9.50 per ticket??? ) It actually turned out to be pretty cute and funny at times. Anyhoo, at the end, the credits showed orchestration by Jerry Hey. All of a sudden, I told my wife it wasn't that bad of a chick flick.

Back in the day I saw Jerry with Seawind a whole bunch of times. I drove all over southern California to see them sometime several nights in a row. Jerry redefined what I thought was possible for the trumpet. I was crushed when Seawind broke up.

Next I heard Jerry had moved on to working with EWF. Up until then I was a huge fan of them too, what could be better, right? But right about the time Jerry came on board, EWF albums started sounding really electronic IMO. Then I heard rumors that Jerry was using electronics to morph the recorded horn lines. I couldn't hang with the new sound and quit buying their albums. Regretably I never came across any of Jerry other gigs that compared to those earlier Seawind concerts.

Don't get me wrong, Jerry's still a personal hero of mine and I wish there was a venue to see him up close like before.

I do the same with with all my college buddies with Wayne Bergeron. Since he's played on everything from High School Musical (1&3), Hairspray, Team America, Drumline, etc, there is almost always a way to justify seeing a movie!! hahahaha

And and a big fan of the LA Studio musicians site, lots of great content that I find myself listening to over and over from LOTS of great players.
