|
|
I'm sorry if this has been asked already but check this out: http://www.wyntonmarsalis.org/mediaclips/marciac2007/embraceableyou/embraceableyou-desktop.m4v (requires quicktime) I thought Wynton wasn't playing anything else than Monette nowadays but that's definitely not Monette. Can anyone tell me what brand of trumpet is it? Sounds great what ever it is! I wonder why he wasn't using his P3 at the time. |

He sounds great on anything but I'm not sure what that is. I'll give him a call tomorrow and ask him. |

Thanks for forwarding the clip. Smokey and Diffuse sound.
Maybe Monette made a silver-plated instrument at the artist's request? _________________ * trumpet hobbyist (engineer by day)*

Looks like...maybe, a new Connstellation, I guess. Honestly, it doesn't sound like he's used to playing the horn. I wouldn't say he sounds bad on it, though. It just doesn't appear to be his cup of tea. _________________ Vince K. |

Maybe that's his beater horn for using around the students. _________________ "Stomvi" PhrankenPhlugel w/ Blessing copper bell

I wonder why he opted for a silver horn instead of the gold brushed finish of his other Monettes. |

I still don't think that it is Monette P3 Prana. If I'm right Monette has never used lever-type water keys, U-shaped thumb rings or round tuning slides (except vintage models) like that. They are all more or less ovate. There are other videos where he is using his raw brass Monette Prana 3.

just speculation, but if the horn was in the testing phase when the video was filmed perhaps it did not get its final dress gold yet. one cannot plate gold to brass so silver must be applie first.. at least thats what I have been led to beleive. |

Looks like a Strad with a rounded tuning slide to me. Notice the 3rd valve slide retaining screw system as well as the braces on the leadpipe and bell. _________________ Smith Watkins "Soloist" cornet with K2 and T4 leadpipes and Denis Wick RW4 mpc |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BiWhvCdTQg from you tube.... BTW this is from August of 2007.. This is over a year old... I agree it does not look like the Prana 3 in the monette website but I bet it is a prototype Monette made up of some Bach ideas as Wynton used to play a bach. |

It could be a Brass Sound Creation

That was my first thought...of course it looks like a Monette mouthpiece. One camera guy was obsessed with getting close ups..shame we couldn't see them...

Wynton actually never played the Brass Sound Creation horn. The horn was brought to NY by Mr. Kato. He wanted to give it to Wynton to play. The horn was given to Marcus Printup to try and Marcus feel in love with it. It is being used by Marcus currently. _________________ Freelance Performer/Teacher WV, PA, MD, and OH http://www.neil-king.com

I would guess it is not a Monette. As far as I know they never have had a reverse leadpipe.
Peace
