I wrote a big stupid rant here last night.

Reading it again this morning, eh.

Basically I said that people were using the wrong science to describe what happens when you play.

That's still true, but as long as you can teach people to play and they learn, I guess that's all that matters.

I'm an engineer by day and it doesn't bother me in the least. Not at all. I have yet to feel the need to parade my training into the mix. Granted, my engineering training is as a software engineer, with a physics and maths background, but I perfectly follow the arguments going on and the only conclusion I can come to is that there are people here who just have to be right no matter what, regardless of whether it actually adds anything to the converstation, and who apparently cannot concede that there may be many ways to approach a problem.

Maybe it's that I have degrees in both te engineering and music field(granted, only a Bsc) and have lived in both worlds. Dunno.

Bottom line is, who cares? (besides the painfully obvious, of course. Now, if any of these guys file for a patent, have at it.

I'll have to say that although I don't know what specific thread prompted this rant, I myself am guilty of applying false science through bad analogy in teaching my students.
The funny thing is, they all keep getting jobs.
But I am glad that you're right, Tom.

I wonder if that was the same rant I've been composing in my brain for about the last three years?

But Richard, you were sensible enough not to post it.

Forget the damn "science", if you're actually making music, it's an art. Most people never get around to making music. You'll know if you ever do...
