I have to tell you folks about a new website in the making!

I met up with Patrick Hession after the MF concert on April 5th (2003) and he was telling me about his new website that's under construction. Since then, I've been keeping an eye out for it. The new site is up and running now, but probably only at 20% of it's fullest potential. What I've seen so far looks like it will be pretty neat and interesting when it's complete.

So, keep checking in to see when it's finished. Here is the address: http://www.hessionssessions.com

I see that he has worked on the videos, audios, and pictures of the site. I know several people from the pictures section.

Patrick plays a Yamaha 6310Z Bobby Shew (lacquer) with a custom lead pipe (Pilczuk).

I saw Patrick last Saturday performing with Maynard. He was awesome! I had the privilege of talking to him for over 45 minutes. (I know him from his days at Ball State). He is working on a book, which according to his Web site should be completed in the fall. He said that it would be an approximately 80-page book. There will be 3-4 pages of lip trill exercises in it. The book will cover what he had first discovered in his journey as a professional trumpet player. He also has plans for a second book, which will cover what he considers to have worked for him for the last 5 or more years of his career.

The Web site seems to have many more additions made to it than the last time that I had visited it. Check it out!

Patricks horn is not a lacquer z. It is actually gold plated z with a layer of silver underneath the gold.

Hey Mike, sorry for that mis-quote on the horn finish of Patrick's. If memory serves me right, I believe you played with him about a year or so ago for a short while? I know Kevin's (Meads) is gold plated (Conn V1), but wasn't aware that Patrick's was. I would assume Patrick's was orignally a silver plate then gold plated as a custom option. Please let me know.

Thanks,

I looked at the products page, and I'm wondering what's that "Cold Sore Eliminator" thing he's selling for $130?!?

I smell Snake Oil...

Monette, I believe it's a Prana model with a slight bend in the shank. You can do a search on TH about his mouthpiece. I've seen several threads on this topic.

Patricks horn was lacquer. He had it stripped, silver plated and then gold plated. The mouthpiece he plays on is a Monette with a slight bend in the shank to raise up the angle of his bell. I beleive he said that he had to wait about a year and a half to get it made for him. I don't remember for sure if Kevin's Vintage 1 is gold or not. I do remember hearing Kevin warm up for gigs with probably the fullest and fattest trumpet sound I have ever heard!

Oh yeah - I was fortunate enough to play with Maynard for the first tour of this year. I had a blast I hope to go back sometime.

Mike, Thanks for the link to your site. I've heard you play and you're terrific. I had tickets to see MF this last year in Indiana. You were billed to play with the group originally, but when MF came to IN (June '03) you were no longer in the band. Just wondering what happened. Sorry I didn't get to see you live.

Thanks - I had to leave the band for personal reasons. The timing of everything really sucked. I had dreamed & waited my whole trumpet career to play with MF. And then when it finally happens, life throws you a curveball.

Mike,

I too was sorry I didn't get the chacne to hear ya. I had tickets last April, ended up seeing/hearing Larry in the second slot that night. Sometimes life hands us things we don't always want, but the important thing is you picked yourself back up and your moving on. Don't look back brother!

Look ahead,
