I am looking to get a new gig bag (preferably on the inexpensive side).
Any suggestions?

What configuration (single, double, etc)? How protective do you want it to be? What is your price point?

Can't beat Gard for both price and soft bag protection. I have several and they're very well made. The leather single is about $65, but you can get a cordura one for around $30.

Here's a link: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gard-Deluxe-Leather-Single-Trumpet-Gig-Bag?sku=467131

Good luck!

You won't find much at that price new. You might want to find something used. If you want something that is a quality product, you will need to consider upping you price to $100+. The torpedos are a very good product, but are about 5x ($180) what you want to spend. Glenn Cronkite makes a very good, albeit much less protective, single case for $120. The Marcus Bonna single is very protective but is around $200. Even a protec, which I do not like, is around $55 for a single.

One removed dent and the price of your case goes up.

One smashed horn and the price of your case goes WAY up.

Bach Stradivarius 229 GH C Trumpet
Schilke E3L Eb Trumpet

Wouldn't put either one of those in a gig bag. (Well, I wouldn't put any horn in a soft gig bag.)

Maybe consider something like this... http://www.finecases.com/browse/protec/protec-5866.html

or this... http://www.finecases.com/browse/protec/protec-1207.html

$75-$90 price range, but lightweight & they will protect your horn a lot better than a gig bag. (The 1st one even looks like a gig bag!)

A nice compromise between a gig bag and a hard case is the Gator, which is very affordable and remarkably protective even though it's very light.

+1

This is my 'spare' and it's maybe the best value for the buck. Padded exterior hard-shell construction, feels/looks like a gig bag, but solid. Interior is sold foam. They nailed it considering the price category. Decent sized side pouch and detatchable shoulder strap.

Gard, leather, hands down the most protection and most room for carrying other junk around with you for the price, hands down. I've been using 2 of them for a couple of years, both with tuning bell horns and have never had a problem. I can fit an entire Yamaha Silent Brass (old style) into the carry pocket and still have room for oil, grease, mouthpieces, etc. Of course they won't offer the protection Griz's cases do, and I wouldn't be dumb enough to check them on a flight, but for general, drag around to the gig, throw in the trunk and as carry on with flying, never a problem. Much, much better than anything Reunion Blues makes, IMO, for around $75. At those prices, they have to be made by little kids chained to the machines, no question. Conversely, I don't have much use for the Gard fabric bag, it isn't the same thing. Good luck. If you've got the money and plan on kicking things around, buy a case form Grizzle!

ProTec. Here's what I use--not so much a gigbag, but a great small case. It's a lot of protection for $50:

My suggestion would be not to get one. They offer very little protection. I had one and all it took was one short drop and it wiped out one of my horns.

Yes, this happened to my Strad this winter. You never think it will happen to you, but it will. Stay away, gig bags are EVIL.

Don't do it.

A protec case would be a much safer bet, and still pretty inexpensive.

Here for instance (check out regularly since the choice changes):
http://www.dillonmusic.com/
Go to "Brass" then to "Accessories" then to "Used Cases/Gig Bags".
I've tried to put the direct link for you, but it didn't work.

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I'm really surprised to see that you are only willing to spend less than $35 on a case for your instruments. From what I see in your sig, it's not like you're having crappy beater trumpets...
