A friend asked me to post this. Gig is upstate NY/Albany Area.
Would anyone know who the lead player is that travels with this show?

Thanks!
Nick

>See if anyone on Trumpet Herald knows who the lead player is for the "Rat Pack Show" - it originates in England. Maybe Roddy knows who it is.

Thanks Michael - you're right. It's me!

Just to clarify; the show talked about here is "The Rat Pack - Live At The Sands" on it's US National Tour. It's not one of the Rat Pack shows from Las Vegas - it originated in the UK.

We hit the road again at the end of February and are visiting Louisville KY, Dallas TX, Schenectady NY, Tampa FL, Portland OR and Costa Mesa CA.

It's fun show with a 15 piece Big(gish) Band live on stage. Come and check it out if we're in your town.

If you get the chance to go and see Bryan with the Rat Pack I'd highly recommend it. He's had a couple of lessons with Roger Ingram and has developed an awesome range, which he gets to demonstrate on the gig.

...and it's all done it's the best POSSIBLE taste!

I played that show w/ Bryan in Newark at NJPAC almost 2 years ago. It's a very good show & Bryan takes no prisoners with his playing.

Gotta say, tho, it is just a bit surreal to walk backstage and hear the guys who play Frank, Sammy & Dean (and they nail the voices & mannerisms) speaking in their native British.

Bryan - you still playing the Greg Black mpc that you got while here?

who's on the far right?

Glad to see Rick is working. He really needs the bread, ya know. Doesn't have any money so he has to play a REALLY old trumpet, things like that.

Glad to see that some folks have been to see the show and, more importantly, have enjoyed it!

@trpthrld - long time no see/write!! Hope you're doing well.
I've moved on from the Greg Black mpc now. Playing a Karl Hammond custom at the moment. Will be in NYC for a few days in March then again in April. Would be great to catch up if you're around.

The other trumpeter in the photo with Rick and I is Dan Fornero. Wonderful player and really good guy! That was a fun couple of weeks!

I heard that show in Vegas ten years ago. Tom Delibero (who comped me in) was playing lead and he just tore it up!

The best part of that show (in my opinion) was the guy who sorta "burst" onto the stage and did a fantastic Bobby Darin impression. Just amazing! I told Tom that, and he said, "Oh, you mean my boss, David Cassidy." I was floored, but he really was incredible.

Great to see that picture of Fornero . . . there's another guy who's still tearing it up after all these years!

That's a different show than what Bryan plays.

Cassidy's show is called "The Rat Pack is Back." It played for a few years in Vegas, now it occasionally goes out for one-nighters or short casino runs. I play the Lead book for it on the east coast when Vegas Lead Trumpet Legend Tommy Porello can't make it trip, otherwise I'm on the 2nd book. Tommy's a total gas to sit next to and play with. Man, talk about a guy who has played for everyone!

Plus he's one of the most heard trumpet players in the world. That's Tommy on Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" lick. You know the one..."Sweet Caroline...." (cue the horns) BA BA Buuuuuu....

Yeah; what's he done so far? Just a "few" movie soundtracks and Big Phat Band CD's..Sheesh, you would think he'd make the big time by now!

(My God, he can play)

You'd think now, wouldn't you? I guess some guys are just slow starters.

Beside being an amazing player, Dan is lot of fun to work & hang with.

To answer the original question, I can now confirm that I won't be playing the Rat Pack week in Schenectady, NY. In my stead will be Augie Haas, a marvellous player based in Miami who played the show with us a couple of years ago in West Palm Beach. I'll be there for the remainder of the dates.

For more info on Augie, visit http://www.augiehaas.com

Bryan,

Doesn't the 8335LA rock!!! The guys in my section tell me this horn gives me a big, dark, projecting sound, and my horn slots to at least Bb above High C. I wind up searching for B, C, and D; but then again I don't play up there much since I just figured out how to get those notes and don't want to over do it.

Anyway, do you find that as well, a big dark sound that projects with the 8335LA?

@afp

Absolutely! I really dig the sound and feel of the 8335LA. I like the fact that it stays dark and rich in the lower register even with a smallish mouthpiece - saves a lot of switching!

Hey Bryan,
It's Jay Jones here-played the show with you in OKC. I heard the show has stopped. Is that true? I hope not. You were amazing and the show incredible. Jay

Hey Jay

Nice to hear from you. Hope all's well in OKC.

The Rat Pack - Live At The Sands is taking a break right now, unfortunately. It's returning to the West End of London for a few months starting in late September. Rumours are that there will be a few weeks with the Christmas version of the show in December - probably in Dallas, TX and Hartford, CT. The European Tour is also hitting the road again in October.

By the time any of that happens, I will have completed my move to New York. Hopefully, the powers that be will permit me to work the Christmas show in the USA if it happens.

Meantime, I'm freelancing from my base in Leeds, UK. Playing some interesting gigs (and some not so interesting ones! ;-)) Also managing to fit in a fair amount of teaching; I always enjoy that because then I improve by thinking about other people's playing problems!

Hope to catch you again, next time I make it through OKC.

Bryan
