A bunch of videos featuring various ensembles from the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra were recently uploaded, most of them feature Scott Wendholt or Ryan Kisor (as well as others). There are too many clips to post here but the complete collection of videos can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ThurchSiren#play/uploads

I will post a few highlights though:

P.S. I am not really a gear head but it looks like on a few clips Wendholt and Kisor are playing on the same horn, am I right?

Thanks for posting. This is some of the most beautiful playing I have heard in a while.

Scott's horn seems to have the levers that control the spit valves similar to the vintage Olds. A friend of mine did a gig with him last year and he was playing a Van Cleave.

Thanks for posting this stuff, Wendholt and Kisor are both awesome soloists. I have to admit, I find the material (Singing in the rain!) and some of the string arrangements a bit corny(I can picture of couple of old people slow dancing while listening to the first string piece). Wendholt and Kisor shine through though, truly a credit to them

Great clips!

Yeah, they are both playing Martin Committees. I wonder if that is the same horn. Doubt it, but would be interesting to find out.

Ryan Kisor was playing Monette for a while. I know there was a spot on the Monette website that mentioned him specifically.

Solid playing by some of my favorite trumpet players, despite these examples being pretty commercial.

I just saw Scott play last week at the Vanguard with the Monday band devoted to the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis book. He is such a great soloist. Really great individual as well. He is not overly concerned with the type of horn and when I met him, played a decent pro model Bach. He would tell you it is about the chops, the practice, and the ear i would wager.

Interesting to see that the Manhattan Jazz ORchestra uses the tuba and two french horns in the arrangements. They sound terrific, of course.

The playing on all these charts is enjoyable. Certainly the charts are straightahead dance music but it's interesting to see how a good player can add some inventive soloing in those situations.

I sure think these two trumpet players are terrific. (Back to practicing now...)

Great playing! The arrangements are a bit samey and yeah cheesy, but its Dave Matthews... you shouldn't be surprised by that!

Right, that Dave Matthews. For about 10 seconds, I was very, very confused.
