I recently came across a J. W. Pepper Maker Philadelphia No 7972. The full inscription on the bell reads "Superior, First Class, J. W. Pepper, Maker, Philadelphia, Chicago, No. 7972" The horn itself could use some work, but I am just looking for a little more information about the make and model (as I am not a vintage cornet aficionado). Anyone have any tips?
Thanks! |

I used to have a 19teens JW Pepper "Surprise," Shepherds Crook model. When found it was just missing a valve button, was tarnished beyond recognition, a couple of stuck slides, but played okay. I got it for $10. Found it had an L bore, gold washed bell under decades of crude. So I had it restored to as new. Sold it for about $1100 + S&H to the UK. |

Thanks for the tip on the website. There is some good stuff there. Like I said, this horn would need some work in order to be playable. Maybe when I make my first million.... |
