The brass group I play for has just acquired a fantastic arrangement of “Sing, Sing, Sing.”
Our next concert is comprised of film music and we were wondering whether this piece has been used in any film scores. It is such a good arrangement we are desperate to play it, so we are hoping we can fit it in!
Anybody out there know if it has been used in any film scores?
Cheers

I'm pretty sure it's in "The Benny Goodman Story" Was it Steve Allen in the title role? Harry James, Gene Krupa, etc. are in there as well. A fun movie.

TrumpetMike,
Please post a sound clip of the band's 'Sing Sing Sing' when you can.
(Heck, I'll buy a CD of it.)
BG's 1938 Jazz Concert (Carnegie Hall) version of SSS is a killer.

Seeing you are from Fort Worth, were you at the ITG Conference this year? If you were, you probably saw Washington Symphonic Brass perform Sing, Sing, Sing. I hear that they have just recorded this for their new album “Dances with Brass.”
You can find out more about whether we record this piece on our ensemble’s website http://www.surreybrass.co.uk.
If you were really keen on hearing it, you could always come and hear us play it live – all concert details on the website!!
All I have to do now is convince the rest of the ensemble that we should include it!
Thanks to Cteneyck I should have no problems doing this – thanks a lot Chris!!! |

"Sing Sing Sing" was used in the film "Deconstructing Harry" by Woody Allen. Sounds like the Benny Goodman 1938 version. |

Do I win the award for the person with the most knowlage about the most useless trivia?
I believe the first movie it was ever in was "Hollywood Hotel" starring Dick Powell.
They (Benny Goodmans band) do a cut down version of it. But Harry still plays a great solo.

Trumpetmike,
I did some of the ITG but missed the WSB gig. (Allen V. and Jens L. just BLEW me
away.) Now you tell me the WSB played SSS. Bummer! I will purchase their new
'Dances with Brass' CD. I bought a one day pass for the first day of the ITG and
kept coming back the rest of the week. SSS wasn't on the WSB printed program
and must have been an encore. Had I seen it listed there is no way I would have
missed it.
