|
I got to try out the new Roger Ingram Model Jupiter XO trumpet yesterday and man it is a real player's horn. Full sound, bright, easy to play and I got some fat sounding high G's out of the horn. I was really impressed with the horn. I was skeptical about Jupiter to begin with, but they are making some nice horns these days. Has anyone else had the opportunity to try one out? Thoughts? |

Got to play on Roger's in one of my lessons with him. I feel it brings the best of the Yamaha Z and the Schilke S42 together in one horn. _________________ Freedom lies not in conforming to the world's expectations or even realizing what we take to be our deepest wishes; it lies in following the call in our lives. |

That is hilarious. Paul Baron and I were chatting about the new Ingram horn earlier today and that is EXACTLY what I told him. I think I described it as a perfect marriage of my 8310Z and S42-L.
Enough about me. It's a player and well worth consideration. The new Jupiter flugel is quiet interesting as well. Responds better than any flugel I've ever played.
I checked them both out at NTC last week. Roger, Paul, Jose Sibaja, Brad Ulrich, Jeff Conner, John Blount are all playing Jupiters now. That's a pretty impressive list.
We sure have a lot of good horns out there to choose from. _________________ Pat Shaner

That's an excellent description. I play the 8310Z and have for 3 years, and this horn has that same ease of play, access of upper register and slots a bit better, like the Schilke. Roger gave me an opportunity to drive that bus last year. And it's purrty.

I wish I could say I predicted this but I did not this time. I thought for sure that someone like Harrelson was going to Team up with them but in the end I do not think it matters. Having owned and worked on a modern maybe 2 year Old Jupiter I could clearly see they where not the same old Jupiters from 10+ years ago. Their fit and finish and attention to detail is as good as Kanstuls or Getzen etc.......They where offering a lot of bang with innovative marketing idea like multiples slides, caps, buttons and springs etc....... I know it was only going to be a matter of them either coming up with a great design on their own or teaming up with someone that could help them with design, sound concept and put some weight behind the new model as in name recognition!
What I like is that they have Nickel, Monel and Stainless Steel valves for many models so even if they do not come with what you want you can order replacements in any of the other materials.I like the fact that for under $1000 you can get a student trumpet with stainless steel valves ot a pro horn with stainless steel valves for well under the $3000+ mark most other pro horns with stainless steel valves demand! I also like the two piece valve assembly.I love how cheap parts are for them as well! I love being able to buy a leadpipe for them for under $5 in most case's not considering their solid sterling silver leadpipes of course! I love it when you can get great options, value added, good build quality, and cheap replacement parts cost's!!! That is what you want in any tool really! I defiantely think that Jupiter builds a better product then Eastman! _________________ The only easy day was yesterday! |

ProWinds should double check that link - I don't think that is the right bore size listed for the 1600i. Of course, I've been wrong before, but I think it is more like .453 whereas the link shows .459. But, they're just spec. _________________ Pat Shaner

I hope I'm not wrong with the price as it was given to me by Jim of Dillon music. I have a strong feeling that Jim might quote me wrongly. |

This new Jupiter has replaced the RV-812 which was based on a Monette design. I have an 812. The 812 was never marketed in the USA and was billed as a interm. to pro model. The 812 plays great and depending where in the world you got it, it was around 1000 USD.
I used it mostly as an improv. horn, although it seemed to like my Reaves mpcs. (42M/42S-but especially the 42M) And my Reaves mpcs. are from the mid-80s and one piece (and a lot cheaper than what they are going for now!!) |

The 1602 & 1604 are listed at $1619, so I think he was wrong... If they will sell for under $1300, that's a deal... _________________ ------

Any ATL stores have a demo one down this way...
I've never played a 0.453" horn before, and wondering how restrictive it would play... _________________ ------

It would be great to find a dealer in ATL but I don't think of any stores that would carry Jupiters.

Looks like they corrected the bore size. The silver model is listed at .453. However, I also believe the pistons are stainless, not monel. _________________ Stomvi VRII Bb
