I am looking for someone who has or some company that makes a oval shaped mouthpiece. (not Harrison Wedge, already tried them). Can a
already stock mouthpiece such as a Schilke or a Bach be converted to
one or is there a company that already makes one. |

Why do you ask that... ? Have you tried these ...?
He's got versions of standard models from most makes for trial now.

Bach – 1C, 1-1/4C, 1-1/2C, 3C, 5C, 7B, 7C, 7E, 10-1/2C
Schilke – 15A4A, 14A4A, 13A4A, 6A4A
Yamaha – 17C4, Bobby Shew Lead
GR – 67M, 67MX, 66M
Monette – B2, B4/B4S, B4LS, B6LS, B8
I tried a few Wedge tops and nearly fell for one on a Warburton backbore but long term a conventional GR E65M suited me better. |

I can't remember the name of the company that made them, but I tried out an elliptical shaped mouthpiece at a music store in Colorado Springs, CO back in 1957-58. However, I didn't care for it at all, so I passed on buying one. _________________ S. T.

My high school band director at Jackson High School, in Jackson, GA played a Cauffman mouthpiece in an Olds Recording in the late fifties. He showed it to me once, and it had a nice art deco look and oval cup. He remarked at the time that they were not for everyone, in answer to my inquiry about whether or not I should get one. I want to think that they cost about $30 at the time, but that could be my imagination. _________________ Felton (Butch) Bohannon |

I have one of the Cauffman pieces around here, and it's OK but never seemed like anything special. As far as I know, there aren't any current makers of oval-shaped mouthpieces, at least not any whose products are readily available. What about something which tends toward an oval as far as the opening into the cup, but isn't a true oval? I'm thinking of the Asymmetric mouthpieces. If the OP has already tried a Wedge and didn't care for it, this might not be the right move, but there's enough difference between the two designs that it could be worth a try. _________________ Vintage Olds & Reynolds & Selmers galore
