Just wanted to say how much I love Mark Curry's mouthpieces! I use a 1.5C for Wind symphony/orchestra stuff and the 40S for lead/jazz stuff. I absolutely love they Curry's. They are so comfortable, sound great and not too expensive either! I previously used Monette's as well as many other brands and I settled in with these pieces. I am very happy with them and would definitely recommend them to anyone.

I don't have much experience on E-flat, but I bet if you contact Mark Curry he would be happy to give you a recommendation on what piece to use for E-flat.

I have been very happy with the BlackJack Hitman mouthpieces that Mr. Curry has made for me. I currently have a 1.5C, 1.5M, a short-shank gold-plated 1.5C for my C trumpet, and a 1.5M cornet for piccolo, all in the Hitman blank. I also have a 1.5BC and a 1.5TF, as well as a 1.5FLM for flugel. He has been very easy to work with.

Additionally, I have found the Hitman 1.5M to be ideal for me as a commercial/lead mouthpiece, although I'm no lead player by any stretch of the imagination...

I've been playing Curry's for the past 12 year. Though in between I tried going away with them but I always come back.

Mark really knows his stuff, him being an accomplished player himself!

Has anyone emailed Mark recently? I emailed him a couple times over the past month, and have yet to hear back from him. Maybe he's traveling or on vacation?

Curry mps work great--and they are very reasonably priced! What a concept!

Froggy,

I feel the Hitman has a little more "zing" to the sound. I need this, as I have a naturally "woofy" sound. I especially like the short shank for the C on both my Larson GFT and Yamaha Chicago. Oddly enough, I haven't found a good Curry match for my Bach/Larson "S" pipe Eb. I'm using a Bach 1-1/2C 24/24 on it...

So Ben we have the same problem. We are having the same problem finding the right Curry for the Larson/Bach Eflat. What about a 1.5M with a 24/24. Would that work?????? Or just a 1.5M?

Froggy,

You'd need to talk to Mark; I think that the larger throat/BB might throw a 1.5M out of balance. It could be a gap issue as well, as I was very happy with using a Monette E-3 on my Schilke E3L-4 (which I recently sold to a fellow TH'er in Italy), but it also did not work for me on the Larson. I need to talk with Ken re: a valve alignment; I'll ask him what he thinks and let you know...

He is on this forum... so you can PM him, but have all questions in 1 PM..... he is a busy guy and he may not get back to you more than a couple of times.
You can always call him...best way if you have a detailed question.

Peace

I think that Curry is a great mouthpiece maker... I like Curry, and Laskey... I own a Curry 1.5B which is a little too dark... I've also played on a Curry 5C, and boy that thing has a great orchestral sound for a 5C... Has anyone tried their "Hitman" bkanks? I'm interested in learning what some people think about them.

re: the Larson D

Guys, I'm not sure what is going to work on that horn.

I am currently making a short shank (3.1") 1.5M for one of my customers with the same horn. I'll have to let you know how that works.

This particular 1.5M will have the #2 (Chicago) backbore and a slighty smaller (#26) throat than the normal BC setup (#2, #24 throat) that works well with the BC cups on the larger (Bb, C) horns. I'm thinking that the shorter shank, smaller throat and more open backbore will help my customer play solo literature with a greater degree of control.

BTW, please don't call unless absolutely necessary. I'm starting a 2 month run of a Rat Pack show here in Reno so my time is compromised even more than usual. (I still love to play, and these shows give me a place to test my setup under fire).

I'll try to post more often here on TH. It's the best way to reach a large number of players.

OH!! and Thanks for the kind comments!!!

MC

I'm gonna have to buy a mouthpiece from that guy! Hey Mark, are you playing lead? What setup do you use with that Wild Thing?
