"G Concert Trumpet!!"

I would reckon it plays in G, from that quote from the ad.

That looks like a soprano bugle in the key of G judging from the looks of it and the description in fact I am 99.999% sure it is a G soprano bugle.... honestly this horn might not serve you real well considering that most drum corps are now playing on Bb horns. There would probably be no other use for it other than drum corps.

Ok, thanks - I decided not to bid any higher and thankfully someone else sniped at the end of the auction...you're right, that horn wouldn't have served me well at all, so thank you both for your help.

p.s. anyone know of any sites/place where I can get a Bb DCI/Marching trumpet (used is fine) or the same model they use?

I remember a couple months ago... there was one corps selling their old Bb horns...(can't remember which corps) they used the Kanstul Coliseum Bb trumpet. They were selling them for about $300-$400 a piece, but I think they have sold them all, but that is the horn that they used. A lot of corps use Yamaha Bb horns also.

A lot of drum corps turn their horns over every year or two. Most of the time they are pretty well taken care of and can be had at a bargain. Go to any of the Drum Corp websites and often they will have a link to used gear: horns, flags, uniforms, etc. You can find them by going to http://www.dci.org or http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com

Now that they use "keyed instruments" (Bb trumpets rather than G) the horns can be very useful at a reasonable price.

Go to http://www.bluecoats.com and see if they have any of their Kanstuls left.

That is indeed a DEG soprano bugle in the key of G.

Deg makes a horrible bugle compared to the Kanstul powerbore.I had a DEG when I first got involved with DRum corps and sold it off right away.It went for about the going rate of $300 bucks.

Be thankful you did not win that horn.Deg's in the high brass make a pretty decent plunger but thats about it.

It looks like the Blue Coats still have some of their Kanstul Coliseum trumpets for sale (10 to be exact).

http://www.bluecoats.com/index.asp

Click near the top left of the page where it says "Check out our Brass Sale. *Updated 6/1"

I've played a DEG and a Kanstul powerbore. I think the DEG slots better up to high G, but after that, it cuts out on you. I had to fight a bit to find then "center" of the Kanstul, but once I did, it was a better horn.

Thanks for all of the quick help back there, guys...saved me a few hundred bucks!

I did end up getting the '38 Blessing Artist I was looking to win, I'll let you know how it plays when I get it. Anyone else have a Blessing Artist or Super Artist from around '38 that can tell me what they think of the horn? Thanks

I played an old Blessing and it was significantly better than my Strad.

Vincent Bach and E.K. Blessing used to share parts (some of them), so they're pretty great.
