tmarshall,
I believe you need valve oil (your choice of product/brand) to help you play at your best qne keeps your valves operating smoothly and quickly. The choice of valve oil is often based upon subjective opinion of the player for his/her preferences.
I've had success using Denis Wick Advanced Formula Valve Oil
Advanced formula valve oil with PTFE. Developed in association with trumpet expert Will Spencer. It is long lasting and maintains slick and fast action in extreme conditions. The oil is light and fast and works well in piston and rotary valves. I;ve tried many others and I still prefer this Denis Wick product.
I purchase the valve oil from:

I like it and think it's a useful product.
There are many to choose from. Hetman #2 works well for my newer horns and #3 for my older horns. I've been using #7 for getting my slides lubed up.
Valve oil is cheap in comparison to valve jobs or replacing parts from redrot. |

Be sure you still oil every time you play. You can easily be fooled into thinking you don't need to oil... and then one day you discover that your valves are rattling around in the casings and you need to spend $475 on a valve refit. I made the mistake of listening to people here rave about how long their oil lasted and that's what happened to me.
You don't need to put a lot on if you oil every time you play, just enough to "refresh" the oil already in your valves. I only put a few drops on and a bottle of Hetman Light Piston oil still lasts a year or more.
Some accuse me of "selling oil". Hah! Anyone who thinks $8 a YEAR is too much to spend to keep your valves in good shape is an idiot.

Hetman, of course.
I've tried some diferent OIL's and I find that Hetman is the best among the others.
In my Yamaha Chicago I use Hetman #2
In my old Couesnon Cornet I use #3
I find that Hetman's are excelent |

Tom,
Very good advice indeed. Valve oil is far cheaper than a repair or valve rebuilding.
I always oil my horns everytime I play.

I think it depends on the trumpet's valve tolerances.
Each trumpet works BEST with a particular kind of oil.
My Concept TT works best with Al Cass. My Adams A4 works best with Ultra Pure. In the past i had a Taylor Chicago Standard which worked best with Blue Juice.... _________________ Martin Bohme Tumultus

I think so too. Oils I've had that worked with "looser" valves, like Fat Cat, didn't work well with newly-rebuilt valves. For those, I like 5 Starr and Hetman Light.
