Still have the silver one Dad bot me in high school in '70's-- and the same Bach
1 1/4C mouthpiece. Forever get flattering comments on that horn and have yet to play a sweeter c in a Church setting- are there many others out there?

I played an Eterna C for a semester or two in undergrad--it was a school horn. I was playing an Eterna Severinsen Bb at the time and I liked the C because it had almost the same response--very free-blowing. I bet those are collectors items--at least among Getzen fans.

I had one for a number of years and liked it a lot.

Wish I hadn't sold it, it was a really nice horn.

I have a large bore Eterna C that I got about a year ago. The serial number puts it at a '72 - '75 year of manufacture. I haven't played many other C trumpets, but I really like the sound and "feel" - I use a Bach 1C on it most of the time.

I have one from the early seventies in mint condition. Just recently realized (playing it) that the sound I have grown up with from all these trumpet concertos is a C trumpet sound

The valves are better than those of my Bach and the response and intonation are great.

I bought one of those new back in the very early 70's when I got a job as 2nd in a Symphony, and later was moved up to principal...It was my first C, and I played on it for most of the rest of that decade, including graduate school. As I recall, I traded it in on a Benge 3x...not to take anything away from the Benge, getting rid of that Getzen C was a mistake...I wish still owned it! Great sounding C, played a lot better than the Benge C that replaced it...Money was tight back then...

Has anyone played the current Getzen C offerings, and if so how do they compare to the old Eternas? Perhaps Adam can elaborate...?

I think the only C's in their current catalog are the Custom 307X's. The descriptions seem to read like they are targeted towards players in the market for a Stradivarius or a Xeno.

Hi Adam, there was another recent thread where the discontinued Capri C's were praised. It seems there are many fans of the lighter-brighter sound of the Capri and Eterna C trumpets. Or, C trumpets with that classic "Getzen zing".

I have an old Getzen Severinsen C trumpet. It's the only Severinsen C trumpet I've ever seen.
It has a more open bell flair than the Eterna's that I've seen, and it plays great.

I've had the pleasure of playing a remarkable Eterna C that my teacher, Charles Schlueter, used in his days in the Minnesota Orchestra (which was known, pre-1968 as the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra). A dear friend now has this horn on 'permanent loan' and has been loving it, even as it enters its second half-century of service.

The horn is gold plated, and plays like a dream.

The only recent concert-pitch offerings I've played by Getzen are the C Cornet, which is also an excellent horn. I simply haven't been in the same room as one of their newer C trumpet models, but I'd certainly be interested in trying one.

Happy practicing!

I have a large bore Severinsen Eterna C.

Best C trumpet I've ever played.

I had a Capri C from the 70s, and whats crazy is how similar they played.

The Severinsen Eterna C is unreal though. Always has a beautiful tone and always feels natural.

I know Getzen released the 900S classic Eterna with original specs as the old Eterna (according to WWBW), I would kill for a new Eterna C with original specs.

I don't know spec-wise, but as a player, I know first hand my 3070 fits right in any orchestral section, but also has a nice dark tone for solo work.

Does your 3070 have the reversed leadpipe or the standard one? Also, do you find it to be "free blowing" as described by Getzen on their website?

Thanks,

Cool. I were beginning to think that I were the only one owning a Eterna Severinsen C trp.
I think mine is ML.
Mine is wrapped diffently than the Eterna's, and mine has level water keys

I actually thought they were all ML, but mine is lacquered with "LB" under the serial number.

Mine is the standard leadpipe. And it does feel really free-flowing.

I'm no Getzen rep or anything, but they just feel right to me. I've been on all Getzen since 2013.

The 3070 is a really nice horn for orchestral playing. The sound and characteristics are reminiscent of a Bach 229 C. I played one for a season in a Schilke - Getzen - Bach section and was very pleased with it.

As for how it compares with the old Eternas, it has been too many years since I played an Eterna C, so I cannot comment on that.

I find the last post by Dayton interesting in that you say the 3070 is similar in sound to the Bach 229. Now, I have never played a Bach C (I think) but the thing that strikes me when comparing my Bach Bb with my Eterna C (apples to oranges, I know ) is how much lighter and less compact the C is in sound. This may have to do with the fact that my Bb has a heavy gold brass bell and a pretty open 43 leadpipe, but the above statement nevertheless surprised me a little.

Are Bach Cs so much lighter in sound than the Bb's? Or is my Bach Bb just especially compact and focused due to the heavy gold brass bell? I know it is darker ...

I posted this query elsewhere, but might get a wider response here. What's the functional difference between the Getzen Eterna C and the Capri C? I know the Eterna was marketed as the "Professional" level trumpet and the Capri as an "Intermediate." But what's the actual difference in sound, intonation and playability?
