I’m still looking for a way to solve my mouthpiece problems..
Seems like I may have the same problem as the Over Sized Mouthpiece Receiver on the Olds. Luckily I’m not the only one to see the problem, asemaster ( Bill) saw the same thing I did.. A cornet Mouthpiece is too Small.. a Trumpet mouthpieces fits but is WAY out of tune, so the flugel seems the best bet.. I guess I may try to find a small flugel Mouthpiece that will be in tune. I have to say Getzen Corp. has been very accommodating & they are trying to solve the problem..

Here is a Link to the Pics of it from Ebay..
The mouthpice thay had in it was a Bach 7C cornet that they had taped up ..

To who ever said they love the sound of the Getzen Eb they are RIGHT.. It has a MUCH bigger sound then the Yamahas I’ve played.. The bigger bell really make a difference..
I may if I can find the time & the money take the lil cornet to Cliff & have him make me a Custom Blackburn pipe.. That is the nice thing about being less than 4 hours away from the Blackburn Shop..

On a Side note one of my band mates just picked up a Yamaha ycr261 Eb Sop & was asking me what a good mouthpiece for that particular horn.. He is primarily a Trumpeter but also plays a lot of Cornet with his Olds Ambassador.. I think he plays around a Bach 3c..
Thanks for any recommendations?

Kevin

Interesting - that horn tunes at the leadpipe. I hadn't realized that.
Come on Kevin - you got such a deal on that horn, go ahead and have Blackburn make you a new receiver!! I bet you wouldn't regret it!

Hey there,

Curry offers any of their cornet mouthpieces also made to fit the
53' (and earlier) Olds receivers. I just received a Curry 4S-3DC
and it fits my Olds beautifully. Cost me all of $68.00 (normal list
price + $15.00 for the Olds shank) including shipping. I bet that's
alot cheaper than having Cliff make a pipe for the horn, assuming
of course the I.D. of the Getzen receiver is the same as the Olds.

I'm trying to get a definitive answer from Getzen..
It's a GREAT soprano because it's a .460 Bore, but the Getzen rep I've been talking to hasn't had much luck finding a Getzen Tech that was there when it was made & has any knowledge of it..

I'll take some more pics when I get a chance & get it all cleaned up..

It was in GREAT shape.. a few small scratches & a stuck amato water key, other than that: WOW a great horn.. I need to give it a good long bath to make sure I got everything cleaned out of it..

It plays VERY free & open .. Projects well.. I used it a few times with the Cornet Band lat night I could easily play over: 2 Bb cornets,3 Alto Horns, Flugel & 2 tubas.. Just don't tell them I said that..

I was making a list of all the horns I have..
Guess it's time to take Pics of all of them & put them on a website..
Riffdawg (Joel) calls me a Walking Brass Band.. He is right..

Right now I've got:
2 Bb Trumpets
1 C Trumpet
1 Eb/d Trumpet
1 Short Bell Picc Trumpet

1 Eb Cornet
2 Bb Cornets
2 Flugelhorns
2 Alto Horns
1 Euphonium

HI.. MY NAME IS KEVIN & I HAVE AN ADDICTION. EBAY is not my friend
They say admitting you have a problem is the part of the solution.. lol

Of course.. I've got a new solution to my EBAY Problem.. People ask me to Bid on EBAY horns for them.. They send the check/money order when I win them a horn.. It's great to spend other people's money..

Kevin

Kevin,

I have that same model Getzen soprano cornet and my leadpipe, which takes a standard cornet mouthpiece, doesn't look like yours. Mine has two pulls on either side of the chunky hexagon at the very end of the receiver. I have discovered that the Eb cornet pipe and Getzen Eterna piccolo pipe have the same OD, so they can be swapped around (resulting in picc in B and cornet in D...). It makes me wonder if the Getzen Eterna flugelhorn leadpipe has the same OD, and if one has somehow ended up in your cornet.

Kevin,

I've got a Getzen soprano I'm selling on behalf of a band here which is the same as yours (except it is silver plated and has a trigger on the 1st slide instead of the saddle).

The leadpipe takes a normal cornet mouthpiece without any problems.

I have a Getzen Picc & Getzen Flugel so I can check those pipes..
I’ve already tried the Flugel Pipe & unless it was cut down it is too long to fit..
I do not have the original Getzen Bb pipe but I will find my Getzen A pipe & see if it fits & if it looks the same..

nieuwguyski: If at all possible can you send a pic of your Leadpipe..

Everyone: THANK you for all the Help.. I think we're getting closer to the solution.

Thats definitley a Getzen Pic Bb pipe.
Its the wrong one.
Get the correct leadpipe and the instrument will also sound better.

Definitely sounds like a case of someone having experimented before you purchased the sop - I have a Getzen sop and it takes a cornet shank perfectly.

If you are that close to Blackburn, see what they can do in the way of a soprano leadpipe. If the one from their new sop fits the Getzen I would be very interested. If it has even the slightest playing characteristics of their own soprano I may have to invest in one.

Edited for terrible spelling!

Well I love Blackburn pipes.. I have them on almost all of my Horns..
SO ... I will have to talk to Tina or Cliff & see if the pipe will fit my Blackburn.
Just another Excuse for a trip to the Blackburn Shop.
