In the past I used Hetman Ultra Slide Grease (USG -Grease #9) for loose tuning slides. Hetman no longer makes this product so I searched for something similar made by another company. I found that Ultra Pure makes a product they call "Heavy Tuning Slide Lube." I ordered some and am sharing the results on TH.
Anyone who has used Hetman's Ultra Slide Grease knows it was a mess to apply. It was sort of like applying super-thick Elmer's Glue and it was very "stringy." It worked well, however.
Ultra Pure Heavy Tuning Slide Lube is more like super-thick honey. It's much less "stringy" than Hetman Ultra Slide Grease so it's much easier to apply. The results are great! If you're looking for something better than the now discontinued Hetman Ultra Slide Grease then Ultra Pure Heavy Tuning Slide Lube is what you want.
Just thought I'd share. _________________ HERMOKIWI |

I use it on my Monette for the main tuning slide and it works great. Very sticky stuff. It I use the med. weight the slide tends to come out while I play. The heavy stops that completely. _________________ Yamaha YTR-9335 NYS III

I've never had that happen. Have you considered it might be due to the FIRE coming out your bell? |

The heavy Ultra Pure is great stuff. Perfect for my C trumpet's stubby reverse tuning slide _________________ Del Quadro "The Mother" |

I've been playing with a practice mute a lot and blowing out my tuning slide. I use Ultra-Pure valve oil, so this stuff was attractive. I bought some and it works.
A tip: it's a lot like pine pitch on your fingers--you think it might be there forever. However, the Ultra-Pure valve oil on a paper towel makes a good clean-up solvent for fingers and the squeeze-out at the ends of the slide. Also, if you feel like it's too much sticky, a drop of the oil directly on the slide will mix in and loosen it a bit, but I don't know how long that drop's effect will last. |

For the record, Hetman has a substitute for their USG #9, it’s #7.5 Slide Gel Plus in a small tub. Tackier still than their regular #7 Slide Gell that’s supplied in a squeeze bottle. Akin to the old stand by Selmer red slide grease, but clear and in a better bottle. _________________ James Becker
