When I studied with Carmine in 1972 he told me to do six notes starting on G (of course), but when that got easy to do twice, he said to do another set starting on third space C. Recently I have been starting on G above the staff and doing them DOWNWARD to third space C and they are working wonders. Different but good feeling and it feels as though it is doing amazing things for me. Just try it!

Laurie Frink assigned the 6 notes to me this way:

G-C with repeat
G-C-C-G-low G-C
B-E with repeat
C (in the staff-G (just above the staff) with repeat
G (in the staff)-G (just above the staff) with repeat
G (just above the staff) - high C
E - high C

I'm glad that you are getting great results! When I work on arpeggios every night up to F, F#, and G above high C, I always end it descending.

This is not clear. Is this all done as one 6 note exercise or is this a list of different versions? Its also not clear, at least to me, exactly which octave these are done in

This is a list of different versions that were assigned in different lessons. I'll get back to you about the other question.

Hey Ross, thanks a lot for sharing this man. Yeah, I like this variation. I'm 'pushing the envelope' a little bit and trying to do it from high C down to top space G with a repeat. Best, Lex

And I would think it's more than 6 in some cases?

Different versions of 6 notes are written in flexus.... in a progressive sequence.
Laurie assigned me the interval in descending mode... if you like 6 notes in that way... try also interval.

I was sure you know... you are a reliable witness of Laurie teaching in this forum... it was mainly for others that hadn't the opportunity of direct experience with her

My final Six Notes assignment from Carmine was from the traditional 2nd line G up to C. However, he had me play each pitch sustained for twelve counts at ppp. No repeat.

Laurie used the same with me as a cure when I was out of focus... it re-balance the lip very fast.
I advice to start with this excercise every time you feel something wrong or had an heavy session last time and the feel lip not responsive as usual...

And that would have been the correct prescription for me. At that time, I was doing a lot of heavy playing almost every evening. I needed a re-focus in the mornings.

Now, it might be an interesting discussion to speculate on the right time to apply each of the variations that have been discussed in this thread.

Following Flexus: one max two per day... i'm personally favourable with one per day changing it every 3 weeks or more...
