Hi, I'm trying to do the super chops. I can buzz but I notice that even though my tongue is in between my teeth, its not touching the top of my teeth. When I make it touch, I can't play.. sometimes it'd be a super high note and I can't bring it down.

I am an SC student myself and I'd love to help you. I am sure the real SC weenies - Lee, Kyle, Tom would love to help too but there isn't enough information in your post. Are you working from Trumpt Secrets or SuperChops? What is it you are trying to do. Please repost with a much more detailed description of what you are trying to do and how you are doing it.

Hi, I'm trying to do the Super chops. I try to place my tongue forward in such a way that it touches my top teeth and rests on my bottom lip. However I see my tongue sticking out of the sides sometimes and the aperture is very big. The buzz also sounds funny, I'm a bit confused about spit buzzing. Is buzzing with lips only using the superchops method supposed to sound like the regular buzzing? I also notice that my tongue does not touch the top teeth when I'm playing. When I try to do it I get a funny sound, and when I consciously place my tongue against my top teeth I get a too high a note.
Appreciate ur help
thx

Sounds as though you might be overdoing your tongue/lip setting.
If you push the top of your tongue too hard against the cutting edge of the upper teeth, chances are the sound may stop.
The spit buzz is an analogy to get SC beginning players to position the tongue in order to get the buzz going. Think of spitting a seed off the tip of the tongue, but once you do this, continue with the buzz by focusing on the feel for lip vibration. And keep you tongue forward in the mouth.
Also, remember...you have probably been playing another way for a long, long time...getting used to the SC setting will take time and patience on your part.
Good luck.

<<...the real SC weenies - Lee, Kyle, Tom>>>
Hey, I represent that slur! :>)
BTW - Follow Lex's tips and I suspect you'll be fine. Keep in mind that the lip buzzing with forward tongue starts things in the correct direction and starts to break old habits. But, don't go crazy with it thinking that a dbl C will pop out. It's the basis, as Lex explains, to lay the correct SC foundation. Best regards, Kyle

But does your tongue have to touch your top teeth when you do a continuous buzz?

You can drop the wedge down a pinch after articulation. But, try hard to keep this drop to a minimum. |
