I have a problem of when I tounge the horn seems to shake a little. It's kinda like I've turned my Yamaha into an AK-47. Yeah, it's not that bad, but still I don't think trumpets have a recoil factor. Any suggestions? I've been doing basically exclusively low and lower middle register scales and articulations and articulating appegios and basically lots and lots of low tounging like everyone seems to suggest. Will this horn bumping go away after more of this kind of practice or is it a fundamentals error I'm making in SC tounging? Thanks.

Chris, We'll probably need you to clarify more in regard to what the "shake" is like and what you think starts the shake. Is your tonguing bouncing against the mouthpiece? Is so, what part of your tongue? What physical thing can you feel that is involved? Best regards, Kyle

I think it's from the bumping of the tounge with lips. However, it seems to be lessening, so perhaps practice will improve this. (It's somewhat similar to what the first (I think) guy on the video does on the tounging exercises that sound like bugle calls. Just "bouncy")

Chris, Check this. As the tongue bevels over, many players have a strong tendency to continue to articulate with the tip of the tongue. As the tongue is now low in the cup and nearly behind the lower rim, this will make the mouthpiece bounce.

Be sure your articulation is off the upper surface of the tongue, about 1" back from the tip. The articulation is done off the cutting edge of the upper teeth. That should stop the bouncing. Keep us posted. Best regards, Kyle
