Hello TH'ers

I'm sure many of you have seen this but here is a great perspective on James Stamps famous routine by one our most terrific trumpet players of our time, Hakan Hardenberger. I have had the pleasure of playing for Mr. Hardenberger and though we did not talk about Stamp and his routine, I use the routines myself everyday to help maintain my playing with great results.

Happy practicing!

Great article! I've been using the Stamp warm-ups for over two years. Reading how Hakan Hardenberger studied with Stamp and approaches the routines is a great perspective. Very helpful - thanks!

Recently they have discovered a printed supplement to the Arban-school, from the time of Arban with supplementary exercises with pedal tones by Arban him self.

I've never heard this before. Is anyone aware of these exercises?

I have been tracing these exercises since Hkan told about them (in 2001).
Thibaud told me in a private letter that I could get a copy of these Arban pedal exercises from a shop in Paris. I wrote to the shop but never got any reply.
Lately Edward Tarr and Jean Pierre Mathez (who wrote the Arban biography) have joined the search. So far no luck.

No the low notes here are played on a "Cornet Arban", where you could change from Bb to A with a valve.

According to Pierre Thibaud (Hardenbergers teacher) the pedal exercises was in a supplemental little book. (It was never in any edition of the Complete Arban Method.)

More about the Arban cornet here:

thanku Ole for posting it correctly. in regards to the subject here, this video is more than worth the $5 for the insight malcolm gives on his studies with Stamp & how he applies it to his daily routine.

Did Hakenberger ever record the Stamp exercises?
