I have been starting some of my students on the 6 notes, as well as the seconds exercise. Would it be advisable to not do this with students who have braces? Also, how beneficial would these studies be to young/beginner students?
Thanks,

Totally beneficial to playing with braces - it does the same thing that it does for all of us without braces: learn where the embouchure should be.
Young students: so long as they can truly do the drills as intended it should help them. If they aren't going to "get it" and practice them properly, then it probably won't help them. |

I had my Braces last year from Invisalign Rockville MD, after a week only I had started playing. There is no harm in getting to 6 notes after having braces. _________________ Eric G Roger |

I was teaching a lot of young students when I was taking lessons from Carmine in the late '60s. I always felt the six notes and interval exercises were the perfect tool to help students quickly adapt to braces.
Repeatedly making embouchure demands in a controlled manner allows the body to adjust quickly to its new circumstances.

Old guy here. Are braces easier to play with today than they were 35 years ago? I never could figure out how to play without a mouth full of shredded meat. I had to use wax strips to cover the hardware in order to play. Even then it was tough to do. |

I'd be interested to hear more about your Invisalign experience. Thanks |
