Activation on the Marketplace will be turned back on today.
Recently some TH users have been victimized by scammer(s) who know a bit about trumpet, but don't be fooled!
* Speak to the buyer/seller on the phone
* Make sure they know what they're talking about
* Don't pay using PayPal 'friends & family'
* When in doubt, insist on using escrow.com - scammers will never agree to this
* Lastly, be very cautious of new members. Recent scammers have created a number of new accounts to sell things, posting the minimum of 5 posts (some of which may be removed), and then posting items for sale.
Be careful out there! |

Hi Moderator(s),
I hope this wasn't posted somewhere else or in the FAQ as I did some searching before posting. How does one go about resetting their pin for the marketplace? I'm currently locked out and I feel like I've looked everywhere for the answer.

The only one who can help is the sysadmin. PM user trumpetherald. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

Should be caught up on those now! Let me know if you haven't received your PINs.

Are there other options to verifying that someone is a real person instead of having them post five comments on the message boards? |

How about increasing the post requirement to 25 posts and adding a wait period of a month before allowing Marketplace privileges? I think that would eliminate the vast majority of the scammers. |

What about people that have problems with their accounts? I was logged out of my account and can't possibly get back in. |

Moderators, I have run into a problem with 2 separate scammers/spammers. One being Saxophonist56 as he purchased my Adams A1 trumpet and returned it after agreeing to no refunds. I was and now am out $2000 because of this incident. Also, a user names Matt4885 who has been posting the same posts over on the market place on a daily basis. Thanks! |

The Moderators have nothing to do with the Marketplace. Contact the sysadmin via PM or email, username trumpetherald. It may take a few days for him to get back to you. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

I think that the rule of posting 5 times before selling is a bit much. Just be smart about who you are buying from. Call them on the phone and ask the right questions. |

I’ve been a TH member for over a decade....I routinely read posts but rarely post myself. That doesn’t make me a scammer because I have less posts. I have sold and bought many things through TH. What I recommend is maybe creating a feedback/review option so people have some selling history. It won’t prevent the first time scammers but it will create more peace of mind for most folks. _________________ Trumpet and Flugel: Thane

I agree, but according to my low post count, I am a potential scammer. _________________ Trumpet and Flugel: Thane

Hello all,
After reading all the responses, I have come to the conclusion that the using the marketplace is a privilege of being an active member on this site. My definition of active member is one who has made meaningful contributions to the various forums. I think if people want to sell their wares without paying their 'dues' can go to craigslist, ebay, facebook marketplace or other websites. We don't pay a fee to the TH, but our lent experiences to others in this brotherhood, gives us the opportunity to use the TH site. I know this sounds like other issues facing us these days, but it is NOT a matter of life or death, if you know what I mean. _________________ Christian K. Peters

I agree that if we had a separate sub-forum for the purpose of giving props to good sellers, as well as any other feedback, that would help. Hopefully our membership would not turn it into a headache, requiring policing by our mods.
A compromise solution could be set it up and as long as it runs smoothly let it go, if it needs babysitting lock it down? With a sticky speaking to this statement of purpose. |

Hi all:
The current plan is to build a seller rating feature into a new version of the site. This would provide the needed feedback for potential customers.
Thanks!

Regarding Harry Wallace, I just bought and paid for his set of Yamaha mouthpieces (june 15) and just got sent a paypal refund with no explanation.
Proceed with caution. _________________ "It's simple, it just isn't easy" - VC |
