My answer here does not suggest that I'm putting myself forward as the "best" - just for the record!

But I will take a bit of space here to tell you that since 2001 (when I wrote my first trumpet sonata for Richard Stoelzel), I've composed at least 50 works involving trumpet. These range from short unaccompanied works and recital openers, to sonatas (I've done two - the first has been recorded 5 times), to concertos (I've written five solo concertos, and have several duo or triple concertos - most using either orchestra or wind ensemble, or even brass band), and a ton of chamber music.

You can find - and hear most - at ComposerJim.com

I'm a full-time Chicago-based composer/conductor. At first, I didn't want to write for the trumpet, because it is my instrument. Didn't want to get pigeon-holed. I played professionally for 17 years, so I know it pretty well! But then, as I realized that I might be able to contribute to the trumpet repertoire, with music that might even last beyond my lifetime, I found myself really enjoying the opportunity.

Hope you enjoy what you discover, should you decide to check it out!
Thanks,
Jim

In the same vein, what do we have in our rep that is aleatoric or minimalist?
