Has anyone else experienced trouble with the undercut on Curry standard series mouthpieces? I have an 8.5C. 8.5E and 8.5 flugel. They all felt promising to start with then I started having problems with my lip catching on the bite/undercut transition and vibration stopping. Even happened on the flugel piece. I find the Curry rims comfortable, sound excellent and love the idea of matching rims making transitions easier but looks like they may not work for me. Has anyone played through this? Would moving to a different size fix things? Have tried the 10.5C and way too small.

Move to a bigger size. a 7 rim or even a 5 (if you like the particular rim contour of the 5 -i do-) will fix it.

The undercuts on those three pieces will be different - if you're not getting on with any of them then it's probably the rim shape or/and size.

This is interesting to me. What are you playing when you experience this problem? High notes? Low notes? Loud? Soft? What makes it happen?

@jadickson - trouble with lip catching on undercut happened with pretty much all playing, low, high, loud, soft. I do have a fleshy middle to my upper lip, cupid's bow type shape. I have found this problem with most rims that have a sharp bite, to varying degrees, irrespective of diameter. Interestingly, not with a bach 7c, something about that contour that stops it happening.

To the OP: I think your problem lies with the rather small cup diameter of the 8.5 size cup diameter. Perhaps a Curry 7C or 5C would be more to your liking.

Best wishes,

While the undercuts do vary a little in that they gradually turn in sooner toward the first cup in the shallower of Mark's mouthpieces, the rim shape and the initial alpha angle are identical on all of Mark's mouthpieces within a given size range, and it is the rim shape and alpha angle that most effects the feel.

Notice in the pictures below how all similar numbered (but different cup depth) mouthpieces from Mark's line have identical rims, bite points and alpha angles (the initial part of the "undercut"):

I will try a larger diameter, probably curry 5c, thanks for the suggestions.
