|
|
I am beginning to sell my father-in-laws collection of trumpet and flugel horn mouthpieces. He started playing the trumpet in school in the 1940's and continued into the late 1980s.
I have about 18 Zottola mouthpieces (trumpet and flugelhorn) and 3 Al Cass, different eras of Bach (Mt. Vernon, New York etc) plus many other various kinds - about 80 total.
I listed one Zottola on ebay. It has received about 100 views in 2 days. However, I can find nothing to rely on for fair pricing for the Zottola and Al Cass. All I have seen is references to Al Cass mouthpieces selling for obscene amounts of money. I want to be fair in my pricing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I might add I am not a trumpet player. What I have learned about mouthpieces has been over the last several months of surfing the internet and some booklets he had from different manufacturers. Any help would be appreciated. I joined this forum last summer just to be able to ask this question! Thank you. _________________ Kristina Schaller |

When it comes to the big ticket prices, the model is everything, to say nothing of condition.
For example, a Mt Vernon Bach in excellent condition could be worth anything from about $30 for the common models (7c & 10.5c in particular) up to well over $500 for a 1, 1c, 1.25c, 1.5c, etc. |

You will find out what the mouthpiece is worth w hen the auction ends if you don't have a reserve price. |

Frank Zotolla's sons Bobby and Glen are still active. Bobby is in Florida and Glen is in California I think. Pretty sure they are on Facebook. Try contacting them, they may be able to help. |

Thanks. I knew Glen Zottola had commented in this forum in the past. I found both on facebook and sent Bob Zottola a message.
At least I know the Zottola are popular on Ebay....at least with the scammers - 2 of which have slithered out of the woodwork to offer me $1000 to just ship "it now"! The check will be in the mail....ha ha. _________________ Kristina Schaller |

As far as I know, Dick Akright never followed through with production of the Zottola mouthpieces, but I could be wrong. At any rate, he did put up a handy description of the line.

I have three of them myself, and have always liked them. One isn't shown in the model list, but I assume it's just a rim-width variation (a 65A - W). My others are B cup trumpet models, one of which was cut to make a two-piece using Warburton threads - and here I thought the big thing about the Zottolas was always the stepped backbore. _________________ Vintage Olds & Reynolds & Selmers galore

I note three different 64Bs. Any idea about the differences? _________________ Benge (L.A. era), Bach 5C, Benge 7C

I would suggest looking at the link posted in this thread of the descriptions. Sorry, but II personally don't know the differences but the list may help. _________________ Kristina Schaller |

According to the Zottola catalog I once had, the Symphony 64B has a non-stepped "symphonic" backbore. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |
