Yep; I'd been hoping the series would show up at qpress. Ordered mine as soon as I got the email.

Meanwhile, I find printed versions sold online, for less, but with CD's and DVD's included. If it's essentially nothing more than a PDF scan of an old paper copy, the price should be less, not more.

Did they go out of print? I bought the series just a couple of years ago.

I haven't seen any of the current printed versions+CD/DVD individually (there are 4) for less than $20 each. Given that all 4 together are on sale at qpress for $45, that's $11.25 each. I don't see what the issue is with the pricing.

Furthermore, as anyone who has ever produced "nothing more than a PDF scan of an old paper copy" can tell you, there is a whole lot of work involved in making a large publication-ready document from scans. There's the naive idea that anything digital must be effortless and thus free. As musicians, who are always being asked to work hard for pennies, we should probably work a little harder to think about that.

Anyway, kudos to Qpress for continuing to bring the trumpet community long-lost and hard-to-find digital books for study! I've purchased a bunch myself.

All true, and yet not what I said, at all. I never said it should be free. I said the price was too high for what you get. I have the same objection to 'ebooks' sold on Amazon. When the digital copy is priced more than (or even equal to) the hardback version, which has substantially higher material costs as well as shipping involved, it's not a good deal. That's even more true when it's not even a clean engraving from digital source material, but just a scan of an old, perhaps even worn copy.

Of course if you prefer a physical copy and can find a full set for less than $45 shipped then purchasing elsewhere makes great sense.

My goal at qPress is always the same: make every book ever written for the trumpet available immediately to any trumpeter in the world. This takes time and money, and books are priced based on the total size of the market. I try to price as fairly as I can so I can keep going with the mission. Big sales four times a year as well so people with less funds can still grab some great resources.

As far as I see it, the more options we all have the better, definitely no worries to shop elsewhere or look around for used deals and hunt for great ebay finds. I do it all the time myself!

I for one appreciate what Tim has been doing with QPress. I have no idea what's involved from the business end of things (licensing, etc.) but the prices seem fair for a format that is universally used and accessible, unlike iBooks, Kindle, etc. The format gives the users the most flexibility with their purchase.

Not having to scan books myself a big time saver, worth the purchase price.

Perhaps when QPress grows, the economies of scale will allow for lower prices, but the only way that will happen is to support them now.

Thanks, Tim!

Thanks Gary. If I sold twice as many books I would definitely cut the prices. It is a tricky one when the market is so small. Some books just sell a few copies and thats it. Maybe one day I will release the Harry Potter of trumpet books then everything will change!

I am actually working on a big new release for Dec.1 that will get people really excited, I can't wait to show everyone!

I bought the paper books in July 2016, but I'd rather have the ebook format. Oh well.

BTW, let me know if you think you might do Louis Davidson's Trumpet Techniques method. That would be a cool find.

I am trying hard to do the Davidson, I am just looking for someone who knows his family to send me contact info. I have not been able to find them!

I have always felt that way about the original Clarke Studies we put out. Exactly how he self published them. I like it right from the horse's mouth

I prefer PDF copies I can use with my Tablet over printed products these days and because I don't want to (and am not allowed to) scan 4 books of the Mitchell Method, I gladly pay the relatively cheap price for one of the best systematic methods ever. People pay a lot more for way more useless things.

One advantage the I haven't seen, is the question of space, which doesn't affect all but certainly does others. When you get an internet based book, you have all the exercises at your disposal but only have to download a handful of exercises alone, leaving the remainder waiting in cyberspace. Saves a lot of room.
