Read it online for free.

Might help your trumpet playing. Or, it may help you pick up girls that are into Eastern philosophy, perhaps.

Also available here:

I pulled out the useful exercises and annotated with some clarifying suggestions here:

Both Jeffs, thank you very much for citing this book, and Jeff 2, thank you very much for your abbreviated version. I've been working on my breathing more this summer than I have in any year since I started to play and it is proving to be very beneficial. I had heard that MF was mindful of breathing and yoga breathing exercises so seeing this has been helpful for me today. Pete

Yeah, Maynard specifically referenced this book as being important in his development.

When it was originally published, it was a smallish casebound (hardback) book with a blue cover. We all called it "The Little Blue Book" when I was in college.

Maynard showed it to Bobby Shew, so Bobby used to hand it out, back in the day.

Crazy how the universe works....

I never heard of this book, nor mentioned it to my wife... But I come home today from taking my son to the river, and find this sitting on our kitchen counter! The wife happened upon it in our over-sized book collection and thought it looked like an interesting read. Saved me the trouble of wincing at my monitor trying to read the pdf to boot!

ACtually, Maynard told Bobby SHew about it, Bobby didn't understand it at all and then Bud Brisbois explained it to Bobby. Bobby then perfected the approach.

Holy crap... I am just reading this from start to finish, haven't even gotten to the exercises. The sheer insight and knowledge into what we know today, albeit in existential terms is eye opening. The talk about the role of the Solar Plexus is amazing.

Where do I look for the summary, please?(http://www.shout.net/~jmh/clinic/science_of_breath/summary.htm)
All I get is the cover page for "shout.net". Thanks.

ConnArtist - to enlarge a pdf file, just hit Control and the + sign. Keep re-pressing the + sign until you get the size you need. To restore it to the original size, hit Shift and - sign the same number of times as you enlarged it.

Not sure this the material originally referenced, but it's what is currently on Ole's site: http://abel.hive.no/trumpet/exercise/yoga.html

Hi, sorry about that - the site was unceremoniously deleted without advance warning some time ago. There is an archive available here, though:

Hope this helps.
