Hi folks
Am thinking of getting some play along CD's for lead playing.
What are the best ones to get?

Gordon Goodwin has a couple of them.
Just don't do what I did: In the late 70's I started buying charts so I'd have a way of playing along with albums. I have over 700 charts now, and they take up a LOT of space! I don't know how many thousands I have spent on charts. |

Check out Tony Scodwell's book/CD, "Big Band Classics." I own it and it's very fun. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Bob Mintzer released a play along iPhone/iPad app that has some cool interactive features - you can mix/mute individual parts.
Play 2nd with Wayne Bergeron on lead or mute his sorry ass and take the lead part for yourself.
The app comes with 2 songs for free and you can buy other individual tracks or the whole album.

I have both the Basie book and the Thad book.
They are fun and challenging. |

I second this. Great lead book that goes with the album "Basie Straight Ahead" (as Ed stated). So while (to my knowledge) the book doesn't come with a play-along CD, you can just download/play along to the aforementioned album.
Been using this book for years to keep up my chops, and it's a fun and playable collection of some old-school big band charts. |

But they paid for themselves with all the gigs they helped you get, right? _________________ Bryan Fields
