within a mid range of 2 or 3 sizes i haven't had trouble with flexibility. as the gap goes to the extreme ends flexibility rapidly erodes.
you will usually be able to find your sweet spot right down to that half size increment. it is a great tool and i am sold on it.

I agree. I too am sold on the gap receiver system. I relate it to going from an analog dial radio to a digital tuning radio. You can now fine tune and your flexibility is locked in. Chuck is right in my view, the mid to lower gap settings work best for me too. But, everyone is different. If you get a gap receiver system start in the middle of the shim set and go down. I mistakenly kept going up. With help, I soon found the smaller settings worked far better. Instant response when I found the right shim gap piece.
If you go on the high side you may lose the flexibility gained with the smaller end. Just spend a few days and you can dial it in easily.
You won’t be disappointed. It’s a learning experience with some newer technologies that make it just a tad easier for us.
