Does anybody know whether any trumpeters have tackled Schubert's Winterreise song cycle?

Just curious. In that I have heard several a great trumpeter comment on how he or she recommends listening to and emulating great singers, it occurred to me that something like Winterriesse would be a worthy challenge.

I’ve never heard Winterreise performed by trumpet. But, I do believe either Winterreise for low voice or high voice would be very playable on trumpet.

Listening to great singers is amazingly beneficial to brass playing. Great singing is free and easy and without technical limitations. Its pure wind and song. And a great singers phrasing is also worthy to emulate.

Furthermore, go to a voice masterclass with a great teacher or coach. Listening to the ideas of sound production, tongue, use of air, head voice/squillo, covered sound are virtually 100% compatible with trumpet playing...

Well, I believe the author is looking for trumpet performances of Schubert, but Fischer-Dieskau was superb. I envy your hearing him live. He was just wonderful.

His work on Schubert and others from that era was beautiful, but have you heard his Das Lied von der Erde? Outstanding.

Like others, I have never heard of Winterreise being performed on trumpet, but I went to a performance of it in Carnegie Hall several years ago, and after having heard it in those acoustics, trumpeting is imaginable. If anyone does it, I would certainly be interested in hearing it.
