Can somebody please tell me how to post photos as part of a post?
If I have a photo on my computer (i.e. in Desktop or Pictures, etc.), what's the process?
When I want to post a photo, I push the Img button and get [img] with a message written above that says, "Insert image: [img]http://image_url[img] (alt+p]". But I don't know what that means.
When I pull an image up, I get no URL, just the photo.
Thanks, Kehaulani _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I haven't done it in a long time, but if I remember correctly, you can't post images from your computer. You can only link to images that have already been posted somewhere else.

^^^ Correct, you need to put the photo on a photo hosting site, make sure third-party access is enabled, then link to the picture on that site. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

Well, that's rather . . primitive.
Thanks so much for your quick response, I appreciate it and it also stops me from continuing to bang my head on the wall. (My neighbor appreciates this, too.) Thanks again. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Todd has been planning to update for years but he's a busy guy and it is a massive job setting up a new site and pulling over all the data while trying to make sure nothing gets lost. It is ONE GUY doing all of this for all of us, give him a break. We don't have an IT staff; trumpet players, not web programmers. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

Yeah.
Every time I think "I wish that (something) would work better" I remember that at least I'm not the one having to implement that. Then it ceases to be an issue. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

For hosting photos, a great website (unlike Photobucket) is called Imgur.
www.imgur.com
Lots and lots of people migrated their photos to Imgur after the snafu with Photobucket (they all of the sudden wanted to charge a fee, and blocked everyone's photo links, unless they paid up).
Put the photo link inside img and /img and use brackets[] instead of parenthesis():
(img)https://i.imgur.com/k6fHdHs.jpg(/img)
See? Here's the imbedded photo link from Imgur....

"Give him a break" ?
There are work-a-rounds for this perceived "problem".
There is income from the adverts. I gotta believe the resources are available to hire a dedicated IT professional.
Other websites (music-related, misc., etc.) have an optional "Ad Free" charge, if one wishes to dispense with the adverts and "pop-ups", and get direct notifications. There, again ... is revenue.

Or the equivalent of a GoFundMe campaign could be set up to fund the upgrade.
But at the end fo the day Todd is the one who gets to determine how much profit, and I doubt there is much, he receives, what software he receives and who he wants to allow to muck with the forum's software.
On a related note, I really dislike the taboola ads. I don't like having to pay for bandwidth their video ads use nor do I like the vertical size. I typically jump to the end of the page since I want to read the newest posts and now all I see are the ads.
But with all its warts, I still enjoy the site and thank Todd for hosting it. |

I have a different take on that. Isn't there a person or persons with the time and technological savvy to do this work?
Perhaps I'm wrong, but isn't this the most used American trumpet oriented site? Wouldn't that implythat there are enough candidates accessible?
BTW, this is not judgmental, I appreciate that someone is making this available to us. I wouldn't (couldn't) do this, or even want to if I could. I just wonder if it's not possible to get some help and update at the same time. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Good point. Some are retired, but might have the tech savvy.
One challenge might be that some work is best done at the site, rather than remotely. But having no experience in this realm, I cannot state converting to a newer forum software isn't possible remotely either. |

Yes, really, eye-roll or not. Go start your own site. The cost is mainly in the storage if we hosted all those pictures.
Not sure anybody likes the ads but Todd was paying out of pocket so they pay the server company, not enough to hire staff. One of his goals is/was to keep it free for all since we have such a diverse group of folk.
As an aside, I first joined TH back in 1998, wow 20 years went by quickly (mostly). _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

Smarmy.
I wish I could. I would definitely encourage politics and religion post-topics.
