Hi Everybody,

Can anyone steer me in the right direction of someone that makes custom cases for trumpets?

Specifically, I’m looking for a case for an upturned bell...I’m starting to grow a collection and acquired one no case.

All the best, Jr

I recommend you start at raw brass trumpet. He makes a case based upon the pelican box. The 100 model can be customized to accommodate your horn. These are pricey, about 400 or so, but his armor case is just that. Armour soild. Great protection for your investment. I have one for my horns. Worth every penny and it lets me sleep at night knowing it’s the best. It’s water tight, dust proof and really tough on the outside but soft on the inside.
You won’t be sorry. I promise.

There have been several threads along this line, even over the past few months.

Thank you for the great response. I am very much leaning toward the DIY route. As a military guy, being fortunate having a job with cool gear, I have a ton of pelican cases. I've been trying to figure out the type of foam that I want to use for that very reason (travel/transport).

Having looked at a lot of Pelican cases over the past year or so, I am pretty sure the 1600 and larger is the route needed in order to provide enough length side to side, at least, for a standard B-flat or C trumpet length (19-20 inches). Obviously, a cornet and even most flugelhorns (18 inches or so with tuning mouthpipe inserted completely) would require less side to side distance. With the upturned bell, of course, you have other special dimensions to consider. What a DYI project!

The Pelican 1600 may not provide the depth necessary for the bell, though, pending the bell angle:

INTERIOR (L x W x H)
21.51" x 16.54" x 7.99" (54.6 x 42 x 20.3 cm)

Let us know what case you decide to use.

If you want the best and safest case for any horn check out Wiseman cases in England. They make custom inserts to hold your horn in suspension. Not as cargo safe as the big Halliburton, more super luxury but meant for horns you cherish or depend on. I got a Quad with 4 trumpet and a Flumpet insert for 700 at ITG in black leather and custom velvet. Hi $ but so much nicer than my Marcus Bona that they are both going up for sale. Ill never need another case, and if I get another weird horn, they will do an insert. Check them out, very nice.

I made a case for my tilted bell trumpet out of an old suitcase.
