Doc Severinsen recorded the Album "Brass Roots" around 1971.
On it was a spectacular version of "Love Story".

Confusion comes from the fact that the recording company released a completely different Severinsen album named "Brass Roots" 20 years later.
I think it was a collection of numbers from various previous albums.
But I don't see it for sale any more.
And the "Love Story" that Severinsen played on the Lawrence Welk show was a completely different version.
But for many years the Lawrence Welk show version was the only version available on YouTube.
But now someone has finally uploaded onto YouTube the "Love Story" from the original "Brass Roots" album.

The number starts with Severinsen playing slow.
The middle has him playing classical style.
The last couple of minutes has Severinsen playing lightning fast.
All with perfect tone and perfect technique.
One of my favorite trumpet recordings of all time.

Back in the days when Ray Crisara was a NY studio player (before he went to University of Texas in Austin to teach), he told me that he was on that date. That's Ray playing flugelhorn in the prelude "Come Sweet Death", and piccolo trumpet in the fugue section. _________________ Tom Barreca |

I had that album..I love Doc Severinsen's sound.
It is so DISTINCT. Instantly recognizable by anyone who
has ears. |

I never heard of nor can I find any reference to any other album with Doc's name on it called "Brass Roots" besides the one from '71. It would be odd and confusing for there to be two albums with the same name by the same artist.
Unless someone can demonstrate otherwise I think you're mistaken. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

There was certainly an album named Brass Roots which seems to be a compilation of previous hits, and it was available here in australia, maybe it was specifically for this market as we didnt get many albums from USA at that time.
I think i bought mine around 1972
