Without Chase, would there have been an EWF? ToP? Spyro Gyra?

Yes.

I have always enjoyed his solo with Woody's band on Days of Wine and Roses. Simple but tasty.

Very nice. Bill was an amazing player. Woody always had excellent bands. I was fortunate to work for a year with a guy who had played sax in Woody's Band. He had worked with Woody shortly before the Four Brothers era. He swung his ass off.
The only time I ever got to hear Woody live was in 76 or 77. Allan Vizzutti and Jim Pugh were with him at the time.
