I have always enjoyed the feel of Schilke 4 rim. I borrowed a Reeves 42 and I like the feel. A little large in diameter. According to Reeves site, the 41 is close to Schilke 13. However, it states that the 41 rim has a medium sharp bite. 42 has soft. I tried a 39 and it felt horribly sharp. Don't need that. It was one of the new commercial rims. Has anyone played and compared bite between the Reeves 41 and 42? Played the Schilke for a long time and due to changes in teeth, I am looking for something that might hit in a better spot. Can't find a previous post, specifically addressing this.
Thanks |

I have no experience with the Reeves 42 Rim, but I do have decades of experience with the Reeves 41 Rim. I have found this Rim very comfortable even at the end of very long nights of Lead playing in Latin Bands and Big Bands and I play with as much pressure as necessary to create a seal between Rim and Lips. Reeves is very consistent in manufacture as well, evidenced by using a single rim across many different underparts with perfect matchup in the Cup. They are a bit pricey but well worth it! If you are planning to attend ITG, stop by the Reeves Booth and try a 41!
Best Wishes,

Thanks Mike, I can't make it to ITG. Hope I can find someone nearby, with some 41 stuff. I would love to try several different cup and backbore combos. Lots of variables!
Thank again, Greg |

Greg,
Call Reeves if you haven't already, 800-837-0980. They are very knowledgeable and ready to help with your questions. I have called many times when looking for something special and the answers have been spot on. Reeves also tracks your past purchases and preferences and builds on that info to get you to the right solution for your needs. I have been playing Reeves Mouthpieces exclusively since 1971 because they do it right for me every time.
Best Wishes,
