So, I bought an amazing 1949 Reynolds Professional Cornet model, and I'm loving it. It's in original condition, and has a monstrous sound!

My dilemma is that I love the Bach 6 for cornet, but with this cornet the #24 backbore is just too open. I would really like to try the standard #10 Bach backbore on this piece, but the 6 comes standard with the 24 backbore. What would be the easiest way to get a Bach 6 cornet mouthpiece with a #10 backbore?

Hi loweredsixth

Via the Kanstul modular mouthpiece system, you could combine a B6 cup with a B10 cornet backbore.

Or if you compare the Bach 6 and Bach 3 on the Kanstul mouthpiece comparator, you will see that they are reasonably similar. A Bach 3 may therefore be worth a try.

All the best

Lou

Hi rockford

Sadly it is not good news for the OP, as as explained in the Bach mouthpiece manual:

6 Deep 16.20 mm Medium wide, Produces a rich, clear tone of substantial body. Its rim shape
not too sharp. was preferred by Vincent Bach. (Cornet model comes with
#24 backbore as standard.)

He therefore wouldn't be able to buy a standard Bach 6 cornet mouthpiece with a 10 backbore.

All the best

Lou

There is a very easy fix for this.
OP, send a Bach 6 to Matt Frost--he can thread the cup section for any number of backbores you'd like. He makes a great standard backbore, or you can have him thread a standard one from, say a cornet C cup piece.
Frostcustombrass.net-
You can even thread a trumpet backbore onto it as well.
The only criteria is that the throat sizes between pieces have to match.

If the OP doesn't mind the typical "fall off" of the rim, the Bach 7 is essentially the same as a Bach 6 except for the rim contour.

And a lot cheaper than all the custom pieces!
