Does anyone know who was playing at the Oscars last night?

I thought I saw Wayne Bergeron, but I didn't see Rick Baptist.

Wayne played Lead. It was on his calendar on his website. He took a break from playing the Pantages Theater which has been his main gig for several years. Although I studied with him...I never got his range!

Apparently, Baptist can't play (maybe anywhere?) because he is the president of the union.

What a ridiculous system.

I heard him play West Side Story live as a ringer with the NY Philharmonic. It was a jaw-dropping performance. Just incredible. Such power, finesse, and musical expression. Almost otherworldly.

Ha! Once Wayne is on the gig, nobody cares about who else was in the section! Anyone know who else was there?

I would have loved to have seen and heard that. He's unreal, my two son's, guitar and sax players can pick him out and often say stuff like, "He's no Wayne Bergeron" when i listen to trumpet stuff. Great Sound in all registers, good jazz chops as needed and precision stemmed from years of mentor-ship and influence from just about all the really great ones ! He's just flat out fun to listen to. Plus his advice is always really good when discussing the approach to the high register.

regards,

tom
