Hi Everyone,
I just posted several pictures of the King trumpet played by Uan on the Chinatown soundtrack on the Doctor Valve Facebook page.
This was an unusual model. It seems to be a hybrid of King Silver and Golden Flair trumpets.

About to go look at those pictures. Off-topic but will you be at the Chicago Trumpet Hang? I've got several horns I want you to look at and give me some estimates for. Hope to see you there.

I actually didn't think the movie was all that amazing compared to numerous others I could mention on the basics normally judged by movie reviewers, but the soundtrack was pure ear candy, no question. _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away."

Basics:
- Writing - interesting, engaging story (screenplay by Robert Town)
- Cinematography - outstanding
- Music - outstanding (Jerry Goldsmith)
- Acting - Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, it doesn't get much better
- Direction - Roman Polanski - you can hate him, but it's hard to hate his work
I mean, there's no spaceships, no laser beams or **** blowing up. No androids or robots, The world wasn't ending. It wasn't a cartoon. Satan doesn't appear. there's no blood or liver flying around. No overt marijuana smoking. No CGI. Most of the actors were actually over 17 years old. So I see what you mean about the 'basics normally reviewed by movie reviewers'.
I'd still say that based on the basics, it's one of the best films ever. You might want to watch it again.

I don't know how to post an image, however in all pictures of Uan, you will notice a unique looking mouthpiece. (Somebody could help me..post the picture of him in his wheelchair w/horn)..If I arranged with the family to duplicate that mouthpiece and it was available from a major mouthpiece shop...would anybody be interested in owning one? https://jazzprofiles.blogspot.com/2017/10/uan-rasey-hollywood-studio-artist.html

An interesting fact is that first there was another composer who was contracted to score the movie but he got fired. So when Jerry Goldsmith was asked to do it instead, he had something like 12 days to write to write the score and produce a recording session... _________________ https://open.spotify.com/album/74qgCj2jd9VxEX6FNk1UKK

I have watched it a number of times and enjoyed it each time. Your condescension and unwarranted assumptions notwithstanding, I'm not looking for a sci-fi movie or a cartoon to top a list of great films.
I simply said I do not think it is one of the best movies ever made. There is a lot of great competition at the top of that list in my opinion, and I don't think Chinatown is quite up there at that level. _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away."
