I've never played a lot of jazz etudes. I think Jim Snidero might have published some. You might want to get some transcribed jazz solos and practice them like etudes. Aebersold used to sell a couple of volumes of Transcribed Trumpet solos by various artists including Chet Baker, Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, etc. Also the Charlie Parker Omnibook is a fun one to work out of....

Eric Bolven has published some good ones. I don't know your level of chops, but Lennie Niehaus has a great set (for sax) which integrates licks into progressive exercises.

If you want a challenge, try "20 Melodic Jazz Studies for Trumpet" by Jack Walrath.

Have a nice day!

I'm told by a certain Italian boy that lives in the Silver Spring, MD area that I went to college with you at UNT, but I have no memory of it, except a vague recollection of the name. And it wasn't the weed...never touched the stuff!

When I went there it was called North Texas State University, and I was there from '78 through '81. I was a DJ on the college radio station for about a year, and I know your friend CB very well. We talk on the phone several times a week.

PM me if you want to disclose your identity privately, or else tell us all who you are. Inquiring minds want to know.
