Can you use a 25 throat mpc top on a 27 Backbore or is this a no, no. I'm not a pro ,just wanted to know with minute tolerances if this was just a no go.
Thanks

Can you?
-Sort of.
Will it work?
-Sometimes but the odds of success seem to be lower (presumably due to the ridge created by the mismatch rather than the throat getting smaller - remember Warburton does backbores that contract from #27 at the interface to #28/#29 further in)
If you've already got both, just try it and see... |

If it works, use it.
But you say 27 backbore...do you mean the throat at the screw juncture, or an actual 27 backbore? There is a difference. _________________ -Tom Hall-

Hope this makes more sense

Might as well try it - if it doesn't work then look into a #25 throated backbore. |

i would say that its fine about 90 percent of the time, and there is no rhyme or reason to predicting it. Most players will be able to put a 25 throat top on a 27 throat BB, with no issues even though there is that ridge at the interface.
Other players will a get a HISSING sound.
There is very small minority like 2 in 500 players that get the hissing sound at the slightest imperceptable mismatch between top and BB. Like they just cant use screw backbores. Cured sometimes by making the BB throat one or two sizes bigger than the top throat size, but sometimes that does not even work. _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

If the top has a smaller throat than the BB there's NO problem. Alot of players will use say a #28 throat top combined with a #27 throat BB. This eliminates ANY possibility of a ridge interfering with the sound/blow, etc. I've done this on occasion as have many other players. In fact I think Steve Patrick told me he has done that for years.

I agree. I've used to do the same with no issues. _________________ ------------------------
