Just wanted to let everyone know that Getzen and Edwards will be showing a few new horns this year.
Edwards will be showing the production version of the X-7 Bb cornet. Edwards will also have the new versions of the X-17 and X-27 Bb trumpets.
Getzen will have two models that are special editions of the Eterna 900 and the Eterna 907S. The 900 Deluxe has a sheet and sheet two-piece copper bell, a sterling leadpipe, reversed 3rd slide and bronze valve section. The 907 Deluxe has a heat-treated sheet and sheet two-piece brass bell, a sterling leadpipe and bronze valve section. Both of these models for the 2019 year will come standard with their own case and custom engraving marking the 80th Anniversary of the Getzen Company.
The two Deluxe models are, in my opinion, huge improvements to the standard 900 and 907. They will be making the rounds this summer and fall and we will be taking pre-orders for just fifty units for December delivery.
If anyone has any questions I will do my best to answer them. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

I'm not familiar with the phrase "sheet and sheet" in reference to the bells. What does that mean?
I'm a big fan of Getzen trumpets. My first trumpet was a 60s era Severinsen, and I have an early 70s Severinsen now. |

The standard bells on both a 900 and 907 are two-piece bells that are made up of a tube stem and sheet flare.
The Deluxe bells (and a while back the original Edwards bells) are made up of two pieces of sheet material. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

I played the new X-7 Cornet and also played the X-13 with both slides.
Such incredible and unique horns.
Everything in the Getzen/Edwards booth was top notch! |

The entire design is something I have never seen on a horn other than the x-13.
Multi radius bell and tuning slide bends, a threaded nut for added specific types of mass to the horn, chimney style trim, and it plays great on top of all the physical stuff. |

I visited the Getzen/Edwards room and met Jon, the trumpet man w/Edwards. I bought an X-13 in May and took it to ITG to talk w/Jon about small changes to be made before having it lacquered. I plan to do a post about the horn in the future - it's one of the most responsive horns I've ever played.
I took it to a rehearsal last month after receiving it, not really knowing how it would work in a real playing situation, whew, it was right on the money, like I'd played it for some time. I have to resist the urge to keep changing slides and whatever the screw-in bars are called - the way it responds and the tone quality change so much it's like a chameleon.
The other thing that I noticed was the sensation that the resistance in the blow is right at the bell of the horn. I played my Calicchio after playing this trumpet for some days and the resistance felt about a foot in front of the bell. I know that sounds weird, but that was one of the things I liked about the Calicchio #2's I had worked on - the resistance being out in front of the horn. A friend of mine confirmed this same sensation comparing his NY Yamaha and the X-13, he got the same difference in resistance w/no prompting from me!

The X13 would be the horn I played if I didn't help build horns with Adams and now have designed a new instrument with them. It truly is one of the few actual unique designs of our time built not just for looks (although it is stunning) but for acoustical and ergonomic reasons.
The cornet was great but I am not really a cornet player. The only cornet I have found success on is DQ's Picasso Cornet (which I ordered after ITG).
Bravo to Edwards for continuing the push for truly amazing (and completely made in-house) instruments!
Best,
